Because common Erinorans do not use fixed surnames, but are named for their parents, commons family names tend to arise mostly by chance. There are a few combinations, however, that show up a little more often than most and those are names made from the Six original Revanim, or Dreamers of the Revara religion, Ratyano, Vicara, Tyaniro,Syatya, Ranino and Jera (lit. The Defender, The Muse, The Messenger, The Freedom, The Thinker and The Quest). Combinations of these are more common than 'natural' names because they are usually chosen by those who never knew their parents, who were orphaned, or who want to break from their past. They are also chosen by those who join the Amlassar or priests of Revara. The most common combination chosen, and therefore probably the most common surname in Erinor (if only just) is Vicara-Ratyano, as those two Dreamers are considered to be the most important of the Six.

Sedunn: Botnienn
(The name means something like "of the mill". Before the urbanisation and industrialisation of Sedunn it was common to ad a main feature of your home to your given name. Most surnames ending with -ienn were formed in this way).

Zadiner: Krijos
This name is Zalismarian and many people of native origin have this name. It's original translation has been lost, but some believe it has something to do with the rain (rain is krifios in Zalismarian).
White people and other immigrants have a wider spread of surnames.
Aloidia: Yamamoto (山本)
Although many places in Aloidia have English sounding names, most people speak Japanese. This is the most common surname which means 'base of the mountain', which many people believe is because the first settlers on the island came from a mountainous region which is unknown.

As Karnetvor has two main ethnicities, Karnetian (Karnetvorian speakers) and Austral, with their own languages, there are two sets of surnames.
In the Karnetvorian language, which has two main dialects, there are two variations concerning surnames:
- In the west of the country, surnames usually end in -ov, -ev, -yev, and other variations (for women, -ova, -eva, -yeva), originally meaning "son of" or "daughter/wife of". Examples include Ivanov/Ivanova, Kuznetsov/Kuznetsova, Vasilyev/Vasilyeva, Pavlov/Pavlova, Petrov/Petrova.
- In the east of the country, most surnames end in -ić; also meaning "son/daughter of", it was originally used in both the east and west to indicate someone was of noble birth. As time passed, that distinction disappeared. Common names include Pavlović, Petrović, Milošević, Fedorović, Vasilyević.
The most common Austral (aka English) surnames in Karnetvor are Smith, Anderson, Thompson, Murray, Wilson, etc.

According to the Bruuman census, the most popular surname in the country is Williamsov.
Originally, the enslaved ancestors of the contemporary population had no surname. Until slavery was in place, freedmen were given the surname of their former masters' families. After abolition, most chose surnames tied to places they lived in, may them be villages, churches or streets. After the Independence War, many added the suffix -ov and others common in the language of their main Communist backer country, as part of the cultural adaptation campaign launched by the WMP(which was then discontinued in the late '60s).
According to the last Puerto Polloan census, conducted in 1990, the most common surname was Rodriguez.
