Currency Thread - Kurnugia - 02-19-2019

So I think we should make the discussion of a potential forum currency a bit more formal:

Roavin and Nakari liked the Idea of the team investing stuff.

TL;DR
Plugins exist to make complex currency models. If it isn't too fancy, it's going to be easliy implemted.

Investment options of the currency:
Players and Teams
Cosmetics on the forum
Sportsteams
Pets
Collectables
NS Services

  • If there is enough people interested, I would also suggest a car racing thing (please pick me to do the stats and stuff!), though that may fall more into the "sportsteams" category.
  • Seeing as this is all fake virtual money, we could also start a betting table, for things like which region is gonna smack another, how long will a treaty hold, etc. May not be the most...morally acceptable, but I am throwing in just a bunch of random ideas that pop into my head.
  • Building a city or similar, that would be in your nation, and you are the mayor (prolly stupid but eh)
Will post more ideas as I have them

I gave this some thought yesterday and I began designing credit card designs which I think could be cool. They can be customised with the user's name and avatar. Depending on some basic criteria (how much you are worth, etc), we could hand out cards of varying levels.

RE: Currency Thread - Witchcraft and Sorcery - 02-19-2019

Currency is a cool idea. Couple of questions -
  • How does one acquire the currency? Is it just like through forum posting or other ways just being active on the forum or is there irl money changing hands? I'd support the former but likely not the latter.
  • Would it be regulated and if so where/how? Like would there be a government/semi-government/private entity overseeing it?
I have a few ideas of other things that could be done, but a few of them depend on the answers to these questions.

I very highly doubt we'd have RL moneys involved in any way.

RE: Currency Thread - Nakari - 02-19-2019

I used to be on a forum with a very extensive currency system, and perhaps some of the details from that could be useful here, though there are definitely elements that are waaaaay too complicated and just wouldn't work here Tounge

- currency could be earned just by browsing the forum. You might get 2-3 coins per 10 forum pages you looked at (with a time limit so you couldn't just click a thousand threads at once and make money from it)
- there was a fighting minigame, where you'd earn currency by defeating enemies
- site owners often held mini forum spam games where people could win money (ex. a counting game where anyone who gets a multiple of 10 gets that amount of currency - it could get very competitive!)
- contests to introduce new avatar items into the game

The meat of the currency system were the avatars, which were essentially customisable paper dolls. Currency was spent on buying clothes, hairstyles, and companion pets for them. Something like this could potentially work on a much, much smaller scale for TSP.

Money could also be spent on:
- improving gear and weaponry for the fighting minigames
- functional things like new forum backgrounds, post backgrounds, new badges on your profile
- purchasing gifts for other users - for example, at Christmas there would be PM cards that you could buy and have sent with a small message, to the people of your choice
- tons of user based economy, with raffles, best-dressed competitions, 'clubs' with an entrance fee, charities for new users (who started with almost-naked avatars - the horror!), trading rare items for art... etc.

Hopefully this might spark some ideas. Tounge It was a fun forum economy to be part of.

Is there any input from admins as to the feasibility of such an operation?

RE: Currency Thread - Roavin - 03-04-2019

Let's consider it "probably doable" for now.
