DECLASSIFICATION OF THE SOUTHERN ALLIED COMMAND AND LUBYANKA

13 August 2020

Fellow South Pacificans,

The Council is usually a reserved institution: its duties involve the safekeeping of regional security, so much of the information that it considers and the discussions that it has tend to remain hidden from the public. This has been the case of information contained in its private sections on the archived regional forum, which was used until March 2014. Considering that the information in these sections is no longer sensitive, that the public would benefit from the historical value of a disclosure and compliant with the Sunshine Act, the Council has decided to declassify Lubyanka and the Southern Allied Command.

Lubyanka is the former name of the private section of the Committee for State Security and contains discussions related to regional security, possible threats and other previously classified information. The Southern Allied Command is the name of the entity tasked with leading the response to the 2013 Milograd Coup; its forum contains discussions on the strategy that was pursued to fight the coup.

We hope that all citizens will find these disclosures interesting and valuable, and that they will help others keep track of the history of the region.

To access the declassified sections, please see please see Lubyanka and the Southern Allied Command.

Faithfully yours,

The Council on Regional Security
