Looking back, the whole thing with Russia and the UN feels like it was too detached from the primaries and Dunbar. I would have preferred to see a more coherent storyline about the efforts to pass AmWorks and how that affected the election.
Overall, a good season. Though it definitely could have been better. That said, the music was majestic. You need to admit that.
Thoughts on the final scene and how it will impact S4?
I have to concur on those thoughts, there were several major plot arcs with Frank running concurrently and
the fate of AMWorks was never really resolved fully IMO. In the finale, I found it focused far too much on Stamper and detracted from the rest of it. (Actually I might argue there was too much of that arc with her in the season.)
Arguably part of the problem was that each season in one year and with Frank
now the President (spoilered for people who haven't finished season 2) but with the elections not being until 2016 the primary plot thread of the elections was unfortunately primarily build-up since they can't resolve it until next season. This probably necessitated the story arc with
Russia as filler.
In regards to the final scene,
Claire will probably become a major threat to Frank next season and will probably run for some sort of political office. A comment I heard regarding the UK series suggests she might even overcome Frank, it's clear she hold a lot of political popularity relative to him.
Overall it was still a great season.
