Executive action: Contested election
#71

Yes, but as Election Commissioner he suspected the vote early on but didn't discount it until a critical juncture. The citizen in question voted very early in the election. Hileville asked a Court question. The Court did not respond within a time frame. Hileville chose to act unilaterally. If he had waited for the courts and publicly stated that he was doing so, people would then look at a vested authority in TSP and see what it ruled which would then set precedence for future elections.

That is not what happened and therefore it seem opportunistic. I know that every candidate would like a clean election and not feel, from whether 50 or 49 percent of the population, that they were elected by a clerical error or through one person making a very big decision.

As I've stated before, ECs are not elected or approved. They do not, currently, even have to be citizens. Giving them unlimited power and setting a precedence that ECs can act unilaterally is dangerous.

Finally, timing is important in any situation. The EC was familiar with our elections and systems and quite possibly that the citizenship list is not updated as it maybe in other regions. The waiting till the end, at the crux, and then not waiting a little bit longer for the court to rule or establish its authority was a mistake.

No one is blaming Hileville, its a weird situation to be in but also TSP has never been about one person making the decision for many but rather the community cooperating to come together for solutions. Hopefully, this process gives the Courts, the Assembly and people the chance to figure out things should be and how we can improve upon them.
