The October Cabinet Elections saw tensions flare in the last few days of the campaigning period with candidates attempting to raise concerns about others’ character and fitness for office.
Minister of Regional Affairs Islands of Unity and The Serres Republic are contesting the election to become Prime Minister. The Incumbent, Mr. Farengeto, was widely expected to re-contest his seat but in a shock announcement, said he was dropping out of the race to spend more time focusing on his mental wellbeing. The announcement was met with approval from members of the public who thanked the Prime Minister for shedding light on the often neglected issue. Former Delegate Seraph applauded the Prime Minister, observing that in his experience, ‘Opening up about these things may only help a little, but it does help.’
Candidates for positions of Minister of Regional Affairs and Minister of Military Affairs, Pencil Sharpeners and Roavin, respectively, are thought to stand strong chances of being elected given the lack of any viable competition.
Barring a surprise upset in those elections by long-time nominee RON (Re-Open-Nominations), all eyes are on the elections for Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Minister of Military Affairs Somyrion and Associate Justice Glen-Rhodes (Sandaoguo) are locked in a tight race for Minister of Foreign Affairs. Both candidates stayed clear of attacking the other and largely ran positive campaigns.
Polling stations will close in under three days, on the 14th of October at 00:00 BST (23:00 UTC 13th of October).
