In the Zombie Apocalypse you'll need to travel a lot. Whether it's on foot or by vehicle, it's a necessity. What's your ideal means of transportation to keep moving and stay safe from the ranks of the undead (stay out of this auto correct, I don't care if you think undead isn't a word) on the move?
Keep it real too. What does that mean? It means your not gonna find a plane and a pilot and fly off into the sunset to some island paradise. The planes were the first means of escape before shit hit the fan, which means infected people got on and screwed it up for everyone. Helicopters are acceptable, but highly unlikely that you'll find one, much less someone who can fly it. Modifications are also acceptable. Plenty of people know how to fix cars and/or weld stuff onto them. My ideal means of transportation would be a bus. A cross between the modded shuttle buses from Dawn of The Dead and the school buses from Resident Evil Extinction. Though, the sides would also be covered to prevent zombies from getting caught in the wheels. They have the capacity to carry a decent amount of people and supplies. Your also safe from the outside so it makes a great mobile fortress.
Crowd of what?
People: Unlikely that you'll find a crowd of people. In the Zombie Apocalypse, traffic jams aren't really a problem either Zombie Horde: Drive through them or clear a path using explosives for efficiency. Propane tanks are an excellent choice.
My preffered method would transit would be a train with modifications to make it more defensible and have a cow-catcher on front to plow through any Zombies on the tracks. It can also serve as a mobile base, allowing you to pack up and go as needed. The only potential problem would be finding fuel for it.
For in-town affairs my preffered method would be a Police SUV, as the sirens would be useful to distract Zombies, and a cow-catcher on front of it as well.
I'd rather the SUV than the train. Because the later, although it could be armoured, would still depend on rails and thus could be derailed.
The more fuel-efficient, the better. You can circle around hordes and drive around dangerous spots, but if you decide to drive a gas guzzler simply because it's big, you are gonna have a bad time.

You might say "But the Hindenburg!" but as long as I fill it with helium instead, I'm safe from explosion. Then I can fly around dropping incendiaries on them, being completely out of reach.
