An Address to the People of TSP
#1

I'll keep this short and sweet.

The people of TSP have been betrayed. We placed a massive duty, conferred a position of great trust, to two different individuals, those being God-Emperor and Belschaft. They chose to abuse that trust, something which I consider to be both dishonorable and corrupt. By attempting to undermine the very pillars of our democracy and subvert our independence, they have harmed our reputation through their conduct. This is exactly the opposite of what a Justice should be. Justices should be those who are willing to always do what is right, no matter how difficult or inconvenient it is. I'm willing to do this. In the past, I've never been one to compromise my ideals just because it was difficult to do so, or because it would be politically convenient; I showed this in Lazarus. No matter how difficult my beliefs made things for me, no matter how much it set the government against me and how many elections it made me lose or appointments it made me get passed up for, I always stuck to my beliefs. This is what a Justice should be, and this is how I promise to behave.

If you have any questions, you may ask them in this thread.

Are you saying that the Courts should have the power to summon citizens to trial, through a prosecuting authority of some description? Because Unibot did ask in my thread, why JAL and Mall were not summoned to trial, and it got me to give some thought to such an idea. In any case, I'll be willing to work with you and the rest of the Justices on the viability of a prosecuting authority for TSP, if that was your intention.

It never made much sense to me why the court couldn't just summon people if they knew of a preponderance of evidence that suggested a trial should be conducted. Acknowledging the evidence against someone is different than assuming guilt.

I think the sort of plaintiff model of justice is intended to reduce how many criminal cases are pursued - for fear of a Chief Justice with an axe to grind to just start accusing people of treason etc. The sort of stuff is more common in TNP - it's a tactic that wears down political enemies. If you get accused of treason or something, it's intended to wear you down - with the hope you will leave TNP. Stupid stuff like Eluvatar being accused of treason for reporting Blue Wolf's attempted coup of TNP has happened.

I'm not sure if there's a way to reduce that while also allowing courts to summon people. One way would be to allow justices to report others if they recuse themselves.

Now that makes actual sense. Has this been suggested before? Either way, I'd like to hear the cons of the court having the ability to summon people (if there are any)

I do believe the court should be able to summon someone to trial.

There's a rather simple way: Have the High Court be allowed to summon individuals through a 3/4 vote in favor with all Justices present. It's unlikely to be abused this way, because the power is not centralized in one person's hands.
