Foreign Issue #61: Qvait urges start of European Union–South Pacific relations

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — After the Qvait–Sporaltryus treaty, the Buzinsky Administration has taken a major leap into international politics. Over the last few days, the administration has been busy trying to begin the development of European Union (EU) and South Pacific relations after domestic criticism of not being active in the international community.

When the Qvaitican Republic first joined the South Pacific, the government had repeatedly urged the establishment of embassies between the EU and the South Pacific. It was mainly because of Qvait's history with the EU that the government wanted this and the hope that the nation would continue to be close to them. Aaron Manziel, a Qvaitican native, had said, "I'm pretty sure that many Qvaiticans were bummed that we left the [EU], but I'm glad our government is trying to bring the EU back to us through the South Pacific."

Foreign Issue #62: Cooperative Space Program Planned Between Qvait, Sporaltryus

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — The Sporaltryan President Jasper Henn had arrived in Stockholm to present his plans for a cooperative space program between Qvait and Sporaltryus. The Qvaitican Republic, that has since lacked an interest in a space program, will now take part in one alongside its Sporaltryan ally.

President Henn spoke of the creation of a space station shared between the two nations in a meeting with President Buzinsky and a number of Qvaitican and Sporaltryan government officials. After President Henn finished the presentation, President Buzinsky and Administrator of the Qvaitican Aeronautics and Space Administration (QASA) had supported the idea.

A number of Qvaitican economists also supported the planned space program saying that such a program would benefit the economies of the two nations. However, the Qvaitican Congress had said that such a plan would have to be approved of through legislation, but a vast majority of congressmen have spoken in favor of the space program.

President Buzinsky said, "We believe that this proposed space program will come to fruition, but we understand that building a station will take time. Should we begin next year, we could probably get the station completed by 2018." In the past, Qvait has only launched satellites into space, but has never built a space station. It is likely that the Qvaitican government will hire several experts for the project.

Travel Issue #63: Qvait Seeks to Construct International Highway System

SYDNEY, QVAIT — The Secretary of Transportation Stephen Weissmüller, backed by President Buzinsky, has proposed the construction of an international highway system connecting Callistaire, Kringalia, Qvait, Rebel-topia, the Sanghelios Legion and 11 other nations. Weissmüller called this proposed system the Southern Highway System, since it is located in such part of the western continent of the South Pacific.

When asked what the highway system will affect, President Buzinsky said that the system would "drastically improve trade between the sixteen nations." He went on saying that, "Travel by land is just as important as it is by air or sea and it is cheaper than the two." Weissmüller said, "This proposed system is just a start because we want to expand this system to the rest of the continent that is north of Qvait."

Government Issue #64: Congress Approves to Launch New Intel Agency on 1 November

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — On 21 September, the Qvaitican Congress has passed a bill to launch a new foreign intelligence agency at the start of November rather than 1 January 2015.

On 20 November 2013, the Intelligence Service of Secret Security (IS3), the former foreign intelligence agency of Qvait, was shutdown as a result of a large-scale corruption scandal. After its dissolution, the Domestic Intelligence Agency of Defense and Security (DIADS) was given IS3's duties. However, within months, it proved to be too much to handle for DIADS.

DIADS investigated a mass grave in January 2014

In June 2014, there had been talks to expedite the launch date as early as 1 August, but that plan never came to fruition. However, after a national petition to rush the launch date garnered 50 million signatures reached the presidential office on 3 September, Congress made sure that it would happen. Now, the new intelligence agency, the Intelligence Service for Defense and Security (ISDS), will come into existence two months in advance.

Politics Issue #65: QNC Poll Shows Overwhelming Support for Pres. Candidate Frost

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — The Qvaitican News Channel (QNC) recently released a poll on 20 September showing that Conservative presidential candidate Dominic Frost has an overwhelming amount of support from the people of Qvait. The QNC reported that 204 million people answered the poll.

QNC Poll on 20 September, 2014

QNC news anchor Jennifer Briggs said, "The most likely reason that Qvaiticans want Frost as President is that they want the MacArthur Knight-like leader that was taken from them on 8 June last year." MacArthur Knight was elected in 2012 to serve as the second President of Qvait, beginning on 1 April, 2013. However, on 8 June of that year, Knight was assassinated by a far-left extremist. Last year, millions of Qvaiticans believed that Knight was the solution to the nation's many problems concerning foreign policy and the economy.

Economy Issue #66: Unemployment has Reached an All-Time High

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — A Department of Labor (DoL) report has stated that the unemployment rate in Qvait is at 6.05%, an all-time high for the nation since its founding on 8 March, 2012. The Secretary of Labor Nigel Freeman had said that they are searching for methods to combat unemployment.

While the national economy may be blooming, concerns about unemployment has dated back to the founding of Qvait, but there has been constant debate about how to fight unemployment. The United Conservative Party (UCP) has said that they wish to provide less funding to welfare programs, which would give the lower class more initiative to search for jobs.

Contrary to the UCP's ideas, the Democratic Party wants to provide more funding to welfare programs. However, the UCP said that the more you fund the programs, the more dependent the lower class is on them. Victor Cutter, a former President of Qvait and current vice presidential candidate, said, "The Qvaitican lower class needs more initiative, more motivation. I believe that there is a correlation between unemployment and laziness, and I want these people to find jobs."

International Issue #67: Pres. Buzinsky asks for Forgiveness from EU member Os Corelia

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — It has been almost a year since the IS3 corruption scandal. The first rumors about the scandal surfaced on 14 November 2013, when Os Corelia claimed that Qvaitican intelligence operatives were operating beyond their reach within its borders. Six days later, an executive order from President Johnathon Victor shutdown IS3. The scandal went as far to having the Deputy Director of IS3, Henry Schottler, apprehended on charges of conspiracy, manslaughter, and treason on 28 November, 2013.

On 24 September, 2014, President Dmitri Buzinsky formally apologized to the nation of Os Corelia and its government. He said, "I hope that Qvait and Os Corelia's relationship with one another may begin on a new path, a path for friendly cooperation with one another." After Buzinsky's apology, politicians both Democrat and Conservative, supported the president's action with Governor and former presidential candidate Gabriel West saying, "I would have done the same if I was elected President last year."

Issue #68: Weissmüller Plan coming to Fruition

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — In what people from all over are calling the 'Weissmüller Plan', governments from the South Pacific have agreed to build the once-proposed international highway system. It had been Qvaitican Secretary of Transportation Stephen Weissmüller who had proposed this system on 21 September just four days ago.

President Buzinsky said in a press conference this morning, "It is our goal to improve transportation around this continent and boost each and every economy of the involved nations." Former President Victor Cutter said, "This is a vital step for the South Pacific, because then we could begin signing treaties." The highway system would benefit Qvait, because trade with Sporaltryus would improve exponentially.

Issue #69: Knight Bridge built over Lincoln River in Sydney

SYDNEY, QVAIT — The Knight Bridge in Sydney was completed on 1 September last month. It was named in honor of Qvait's second president, the late MacArthur Knight, who was assassinated in his sleep on 8 June, 2013. 481 days later, President Knight is still not forgotten and the bridge was built to make sure that he never will be.

Many Qvaiticans have supported the construction and naming of the bridge. Former President Victor Cutter said, "This bridge will allow future generations to remember President Knight." The bridge was completed before Secretary of Transportation Stephen Weissmüller called for a highway system connecting the western continent of the South Pacific.

Issue #70: Conservative and Democratic National Conventions select their candidates

STOCKHOLM, QVAIT — On 3 October, the Conservative National Convention took place in Sydney and the Democratic National Convention took place in Brooklyn. The two political conventions have decided their candidates for president. While the candidates from the Democratic Party are not surprising, the candidates from the Conservative National Convention are.

Originally, Dominic Frost and Victor Cutter were supposed to run for office on the Conservative side, but instead, last year's presidential and vice presidential candidates, Gabriel West and Dominic Frost will rerun. At the Conservative National Convention, Victor Cutter announced that he would rather run as Secretary of State under West and said, "I know that you would want me as president again, and I'm not trying to flatter myself, but I believe that Gabriel [West] should try one more time."

Shawn Euron on 19 October, 2012

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Convention ended with the expected candidates of Shawn Euron and Jeremy Franz. The two were easy winners from the Democratic Party. This year, they will try to become the first Democratic president and vice president in a very conservative Qvait. Recently, only a few political analysts believe that Euron will be successful in the 2014 election.

In an 1 October poll, the highlight of the 2014 election in Qvait will be how these candidates handle the nation's foreign policy, and it seems that the Conservative candidates will have the edge on this. Instead of running for reelection, President Dmitri Buzinsky has decided to end his presidency on 1 April, 2015, which is Inauguration Day for the next President Elect. For the first time in Qvaitican history, there will now be an election between two main candidates, instead of three.
