Belafesto: Military Reform
#21

Good luck, and thank you for your answers. One final question for now. If you lose the election, can we expect to seek an active role in the SPSF?

It would depend on what kind of role I was asked to fill. As I've stated earlier, I can't make major update regularly if at all; that makes me of limited use as a soldier. If I don't win this election and the victor asked me to provide them with support in an area I have expertise in, like intelligence or administration, I would be happy to provide it assuming they have a coherent plan for the SPSF. I would not be inclined to serve under someone who is "business as normal", as I think that would be futile.

The SPSF needs reform, and I think I'm the man to provide it.

I'm putting another card on the table; if elected, the SPSF will be an unambiguously Independent military. We tried dropping the capital I to satisfy a vocal minority, and I have no intention of continuing attempting to do something that has proven impossible.

TSP's armed forces have been Independent since they were refounded in 2011; since before the term Independent even became common. I'm tired of playing silly political games about our army. If I'm MoA the SPSF will raid and defend according to the circumstances of each operation, with a priority on supporting our allies in the service of our foreign policy.

This is called Independence.

We voted to disown the term, "independence", 15-0, in our Assembly. It's become a political controversial, loaded term that is used by others to dictate what "independent" regions do.

How would returning to this identification create anything but needless acrimony?

This seems to be a poor attempt at trying to tug SPSF back to your ideological front - not a move from someone who actually has any interest in improving the state of SPSF.

For the record Bel, you never faced criminal charges because the Cabinet thought removing you from all offices you held, and your own self-imposed exile was enough. Not because you didn't break any laws. Criminal charges could have been pursued.

Anyways, what I'm getting from this campaign is that we will be raiding with Europeia and TNP, and probably somewhere down the line, there will be a push to work with more of the Independent-imperialist sphere (even though they've been nothing but disrespectful to us for over a year now). If you think the SPSF will be defending with any regularity while you actively push for the re-adoption of the Independent label, your perception of Gameplay politics is really outdated.

I would never vote for Belschaft for any office in TSP until some time where he proves himself to not be inclined to misuse power and authority. I'm not sure why criminal charges weren't pursued but that was a mistake.

If you want to help TSP out and recompense for your sins, start out at the bottom and make something beautiful and productive for the region.

I guess people still refuse to see the different. What you call Independence is not necessarily what the rest of NationStates calls Independence, nor does it necessarily conform with what Independent militaries do in practice, regardless of their theoretical explanations and justifications.

Independence has not worked for this region, and the only thing it brought us was allies who accused us of not being sufficiently Independent, and demanding that we prove our alignment. We are done with trying to be something we are not, and it is about time we stood up for what we really are, without silly labels that bind us.

If you care more about the label we use than the activity of the military, or the benefit of the region, then I have no idea why anyone in this region should vote for you.

I've only been here a couple of months so some of the terms used here (such as Independence) probably don't have the same meaning for me as they do for more experienced nations. That being said, thank you for outlining in Post #23 your definition of how the SPSF will act.

As your proposal is perhaps the most radical of the three approaches being put forward, I would like to ask another question about the MPA's, which is do you see the SPSF having MPA's with regions we don't currently have treaties with or do you see them as being the operational aspect of existing treaty commitments?

So this^! I have zero intention of voting for Bels in this race or Henn.

Can we trust you, after all the things you have allegedly done? If so, then state your point.
