Minister of Army Elections: Candidate Previews

Minister of Army Special Elections: Candidate Previews
by Feirmont

With the voting for the Special Elections for Minister of Army set to open on the 30th of January at 4pm EST, the Southern Journal met with a few of the candidates and what they had to say about the election.

“Good luck to all candidates and may this election be for the best.
To all voters: Read the campaigns in detail, and vote for your preferred candidate. Do not vote for the one with the highest amount of votes. Vote unless that is your preferred candidate.”
-ProfessorHenn

"Whilst the High Court has yet to rule on the legality of joint campaigns, I am hopeful of a verdict in our favor and look forward to serving as join Minister of the Army with my college Henn. Should the Court not reach a verdict in time, or fail to rule in our favor, then only one of our names will officially appear on the ballot but I would like to emphasize that Henn and myself stand together as the strongest option for both TSP and for the SPSF."
-Belschaft

"I joined the SPSF, oh, maybe two months ago. Since then, I've been an active participant in it. Ever since QuietDad resigned, I've been trying to fill his shoes by training and advising the only new recruit we have: Corporal Clegg.
I promise reform and recruitment if I am elected to the MoA."
-Darkstrait

The candidates, along with their campaigns, are:

Once Bel had left it was easy, Darkstrait. I was torn between Bel and Dark but since Bel has left, it was easy how I should pick.

What surprises me is the way the voters have voted.

It does look like newcomers are voting mostly for Darkstrait, and older citizens are voting for Henn. It'd be interesting to look more into that, maybe for a separate SJ publication?

I'm having one of those moments where I can't even find the election thread. Link to it in here?

Darkstrait is a spectacularly unqualified candidate who has only ever taken part in two missions and showed incredibly limited knowledge and understanding of military GP in his campaign thread.

Some of his support appears to be entirely cynical, working on the basis that he is unlikely to be able to achieve anything due to this and thus would equal de-facto demilitarization. Other votes seem entirely random.

That Darkstrait is even competitive is shocking.

Actually, I think it may be Henn's association with Belschaft and the whole "join candidates" argument that is swaying some voters.

I, in particular, was pretty shocked at that since the implications of joint candidates includes "two voices" arguing in cabinet and assembly threads and therefore the possibility of "bullying" or trying to overwhelm single candidates or ministers. In fact, considering that Belschaft brought up this theory and past events, I expect the worst or now try to figure out how whatever new theory is being proposed will be abused.

Originally, I had voted for RON until I was told by Awe that Henn's ticket was a single ticket. I am not in favour of dual candidacies on one ticket unless it is the Del/VD.

My guess is Henn will appoint Bel as his Deputy, but that's only a guess.
