Minister of Regional Affairs Debate
Fellowship Programme and Recruiting | Ministry Structure and Projects | Cultural Events

Kris Montresor: Welcome Punchwood and Feirmont, to the Minister of Regional Affairs debate. We'll be discussing some important issues about the structure of the Ministry and your priorities for the next term, should you be elected. First, I will open the floor for some introductory remarks.

Feirmont: Thank you, Kris. It is an honour to be running for the position of Minister of Regional Affairs and to be here with my opponent Punchwood.

Punchwood: Well, like Feirmont, thank you Kris. I'm looking forward to this debate with Feirmont and I'm really proud to be running for Regional Affairs.

Fellowship Programme and Recruiting

Kris: Let's talk a bit about the Fellowship Programme. Do you think we need some reforms with it?

Punchwood: Well, the Fellowship Programme is amazing. However, there is always room for improvement. What it needs is change every so often, the list of jobs should be changed every month. There needs to be a place for members to give their opinion, and I think that the Advisory Council needs to be scrapped. I think it was made with the best of intentions, however it doesn't really work. It has fallen to inactivity and it's only made of a few members. I think we would be better off with having the Directors as advisers. There are more of them, they know their members best and hopefully they will be more active.

Feirmont: I disagree with 'the list of jobs needs to be changed every month'. I believe for the Fellowship Programme to work, we can'**t be restricting the type of jobs newcomers can take. The only reform I would like to see is the addition of a Companion Programme of sorts; something newcomers can use to help them get accustomed to the forums, the offsite government and the Assembly.

Kris: In terms of how we recruit people, should we just let them come, or more actively campaign for residents to join the FP?

Feirmont: We should more actively campaign for residents to join the FP. I believe working with the Delegate in a monthly recruitment telegram to the Forum with a mention of the FP and a pinned dispatch about [it] and its various jobs and activities would accomplish that.

Punchwood: Yes, we do need to campaign to get people to join the FP. To do this, one of the ways is tell people to join the FP in the welcome telegram, as currently it is not. I think we should have a monthly telegram to the region, telling people what the FP has done that past month and how people can join the fun!

Kris: Punchwood, how do you feel about Feirmont's idea of a Companion Programme?

Punchwood: Can I just come back to the point Feirmont made on disagreeing with me? What I meant is that the jobs should be changed every month, so that people don't get bored with the same job all the time. I would also do this so that those who are good at a project stay in that project and the ones that are not good as someone else can try that one.

I do absolutely agree with a Companion Programme. I think one of the ways we could do this is changing the welcoming telegram. In it, it would cover all things TSP likes to do, join the FP and get involved in the Assembly. I think at the end of it we should ask them if they want help from an experience member, we can't just force it on them.

Cultural Events

Kris: Do you have any plans for cultural events and festivals, with allies for instance?

Punchwood: Yes, I do have plans for cultural events and festivals. I would like to create a large Regional Games with TSP and other regions, to improve relations and so we can meet new people. I really enjoyed the event with Europeia and would like to have another one as one of the smaller events. I also want to have something with the SPSF to try and get new members to join it. I have a few other ideas floating around my head. However, I definitely want to make sure there is at least one event every month.

Kris: What exactly do you have in mind with the SPSF?

Punchwood: Well two ideas. One I doubt will happen, so I wouldn't discuss it here, however it would most likely be the most fun. The other would have other allies invoked so a fake region would be made up and we could have like fake wars and stuff like that.

Feirmont: I have a few ideas for Cultural Events. As it stands, I am currently working with Spiritus on a joint festival at the end of this month. It was a project I started before I became Minister of Foreign Affairs, and with the current MoRA's permission I am seeing it through. I have also gotten in contact with TNP's current elected Delegate, Tomb, in hopes of having a joint festival with them sometime in June or July. If elected, I hope to work hand-in-hand with the MoFA to help me create more bonds with other regions' equivalent to our MoRA, in hopes to have more joint festivals with different regions in NS.

Kris: We know that a lot of projects have taken a while to be completed. I'm thinking of the Historical Project, the Handbook, the Encyclopaedia, among others. Is there anything you have in mind for those, and overall to ensure projects get completed?

Feirmont: The Historical's current director, The Agnostic Collective (or TAC) has been doing a wonderful job overseeing the project. I know first hand (as I am a member of the project) that it's a lot of work, and takes time to complete. I wouldn't change much with the workings of the Historical Project. For the Handbook and Encyclopaedia projects: if I see they aren't being completed as fast as I would like, I would try to turn them into a sort of game: sending out different definitions over the RMB and getting the region's answers.

To ensure projects get completed, I will make sure to follow up regularly with the respective members of each project. RL can be a hassle sometimes. Staying in contact with all members of the MoRA is a good way to find out if a project isn't moving fast enough due to RL, or even a lack of interest.

Punchwood: Well I'm not a member of these projects so I can't really talk, however I think there should be targets to be completed by the end of the month. I, like Feirmont, would also try and stay in contact with people, especially Directors.

Kris: Is there anything that you would definitely like to accomplish during your term, if elected?

Punchwood: Three. One, make sure Delegate's Questions happens. Two, make sure at the end of each term, we have a "best bits" SJ article showing our favourite bits that term. Three, Market Street is re-opened!!!

Feirmont: I would love to get the Radio Project up and running. I feel listening to news rather than reading them may bolster activity. I would also like to re-organize and revitalize TSPU.

Kris: You can give some concluding remarks.

Feirmont: I wish my opponent luck in the upcoming election.

Punchwood: I may not have come off the best in this debate. However, you should give me a shot. I might surprise you. I've tried to join the Cabinet three times now, so I must want and think I can do something amazing for TSP. I won't let you down. A vote for me is a vote for a stronger TSP.

Two great candidates. Good luck to both of them.

I agree.

I have to say these elections in general are some of the closest I can remember. These debates are a really good way to get more insight on each candidate, especially if you are a bit undecided. Good job once again.

A very interesting debate. Good luck to both candidates.
