Resident Spotlight: Geomania
#1

***MoRA Resident Spotlight***

Interview Publication Date: 26 January 2014
Interviewee: Geomania
Interviewer: Awe

As part of a new series called "The Ancients of the South Pacific", we're going to interview veteran South Pacificans who have been in this region for long, some of which had left and then returned. These players have graced the region in its earliest days. With us today, we have Geomania, who can be considered a "born-again South Pacifican" as he returned late last year after leaving in 2006. To know what the region was like in its earlier days, read on!

1. How did you learn about NationStates? What enticed you to join?

It was so long ago that I don't even remember!

2. How long have you been in the South Pacific?

On and off for the last ten years.

3. What is your greatest memory of the region in its earlier days?

I remember being the Minister of Foreign Affairs for this fledgling democracy and trying to feel out the rest of NS and figure out what our place was...it was a tumultuous time, but it was new and exciting.
So when I was MoFA or when Mav was MoFA? We tried to establish a pan-GCR alliance. It was really just the Pacifics but the RR was interested too. The PRAPA.
Obviously it never went anywhere because all the other Pacifics were so unstable especially The Pacific. But it was our first true attempt at reaching out to the world of NS. Right now, a pan-Pacific treaty would be a non-starter. Which is sad, but true.
So if you've noticed, that's why I agree sometimes with Unibot and GR as I am/was a defender like them.

4. Any interests outside of NationStates?

Politics, baseball, reading, video games...

What is the meaning behind your name?

My first name is George. George -> Geo -> Geomania.

Short and interesting

5. If you had won an election here today, what would you have done?

I really don't know. It would certainly depend on the position. I think I would be interested in running for office sometime, but I don't know which office. I don't think I'd be interested in taking out any of the current incumbents and I do wish to spend more time getting back in the swing of things in NS.
I’m not entirely sure what I'd do. Something that has become clear to me over the years is that TSP will never be a defender region, nor should it be!

6. Cake or Pie? Why?

They're both delicious. This fighting is getting us nowhere. We need to come together as a society and enjoy both.

Maybe a peace conference would help!

7. Favourite book, movie or game?

My favorite book would have to be The Great Gatsby.

8. What do you aspire to see in this region?

That's an interesting question...I believe that it is important that we continue to strive to improve the region and make sure that it remains strong and healthy. That might seem like a vague platitude, but that is really the truth. If we wish to maintain the health of the region, we cannot be content with treading water. We have to keep evolving, changing, and getting closer and closer to a "more perfect union."

Indeed, the progress that a region will make is dependent on both good governance and the will of the people!

Anything to add?

Nationstates still is full intrigue. It seems like little has changed since I left. I I do think we should be closer to TRR, maybe it has a bit of sentimental value to me.

Thanks Geomania for having this interview!

In 1963, there was Beatlemania. In 2003, there was Geomania
