Interview with ProfessorHenn
#1

"I have learned at least one lesson out of this. I can only hope that TSP allows for a second chance."
An Interview with ProfessorHenn

ProfessorHenn is the current Minister of the Army. He is known for supporting an independent course for the region, his occasional collaboration with the Ministry of Regional Affairs and his active participation in Treasure Island, particularly as a leading member of both the Southern Cooperation Organisation and the Southern Socialist Union. Tonight he took the time to sit with the Southern Journal and talk about the Special Forces, his recent appointments and the recall effort he is currently facing.

Kringle: Welcome, ProfessorHenn. Thanks for agreeing to this interview.

ProfessorHenn: Of course. I seem to be quite popular with the SJ.

Kringle: I want to start by asking about your performance as Minister of the Army. Earlier today Real Time touched upon the issue of the Special Forces and its shortcomings.

ProfessorHenn: That's something a lot of people are failing on, in terms of the SPSF.

Kringle: In particular, we discussed the need for greater communication with the region. Is there any plan to address that in the coming weeks?

ProfessorHenn: While it's shortcomings are decidedly more important and more serious to address, the way to judge something is based on it's upbringings, like increased posting, activity, and more soldiers to play battleship with. There is a plan for the next few weeks. It starts with a weekly report, detailing missions and the like in a RP format. Ideally, we post these in a dispatch on the RMB, as well. More will be engineered, I promise that.

Kringle: You mention weekly reports. I assume this is somehow related to the idea of adding a roleplay element to military operations?

ProfessorHenn: Ideally. So, we perform a mission. A liberation, for example, of a small region. An example report would be:

"The SPSF travelled through the dark of the night, submerged in the water as they waded through swamps to get to the target. Then, upon clearing away one branch, there it was! The Capital, guarded by two enemy troops. The SPSF fought quickly and valiantly, capturing the capital and removing the enemy from the land. We then allowed the natives who inhabited the island to control it once more, and the SPSF left for other shores."

Much better than a bland report, no? It will obviously be more detailed.

Kringle: Recently Arbiter08 posted some training guides, which certainly look more complete than the ones posted by Wolf or QuietDad. Is this part of a larger effort to make training more comprehensive? Or are you satisfied with the way training works now?

ProfessorHenn: Training needs to be overhauled. Luckily, we have a few major training ops we hope will be plastered by tsu onto folk's telegram box. But yes, this is just the start.

Kringle: Could you give us some insight into what aspects of training you believe need overhaul? Are we talking about the theoretical aspects or rather the way in which soldiers perform during missions?

ProfessorHenn: The theoretical, I'd say. Performance of soldiers during updates still remain rather nice. A lot more needs to be done, so I hope the next MoA does an admirable job.

Kringle: Is this due to problems that you have noticed, or is this out of a desire to constantly improve training?

ProfessorHenn: I'd love to say both. But mostly out of a need to do it. Before I came on, as a soldier even, it was in a horrid state. At least I learned. But yes, after we overhaul major sections of it, it will turn to maintenance to ensure that we do have good methods constantly.

Filling the General Corps

Kringle: You just nominated Resentine for General. Some might argue that he is relatively new, but you must have seen someone in him. What qualities do you seek in a General?

ProfessorHenn: The ability to take over as MoA. This is a paramount key when I look for Generals. If the three of us can't take over as MoA, either together or individually, then I feel there is a problem.

Kringle: Does this mean you envision Resentine succeeding you as Minister of the Army, should he also be interested in running next election?

ProfessorHenn: If he's interested and does run, I will put my support behind him.

Kringle: You were a big supporter of Wolf during the March General Election, and yet you are now the one trying to recall him. Would you say it was a mistake to support him back then?

ProfessorHenn: I would say so, yes. To use the same situation as one of his famous TSP quotes, he promised good, foreign crop, but the delivery got stuck and our own crop flourished as a result. His intentions are good, but he fell short.

Kringle: Let's assume for a moment that Resentine is confirmed. What would be his specific role as Jeneral, and how would your relationship with him be?

ProfessorHenn: I'd have him as an update Jeneral. He is a good updater. I'm more of an administrative Jeneral. Our third one would ideally be whatever is left over from the Deputies that our new MoA wishes for.

Facing his Recall

Kringle: I would like to move on to our last topic, which is the recall motion that has been filed against you.

ProfessorHenn: A mistake which I have noted and I pray never to make again.

Kringle: Obviously we cannot reference much of what is happening in that particular debate, due to its secure location, but I would like to know a bit more about your motivations, namely your desire to keep Sandaoguo out of the Cabinet.

ProfessorHenn: I hold nothing against Sandaoguo himself as a person. He is an excellent administrator, and I hope (haven't had the chance to see) that he is a good man in real life. However, I feel that his political views would be detrimental to TSP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he is a defender, or at least holds defender-leaning policies? TSP is not a defender-leaning region, at least with the military. And when a feeder region has a MoFA and its military clash on partisanship, there is a large problem. Suffice it to say, our Mystery Person is an Independent, and I support an Independent over a Defender and a Raider any election, within reason.

Kringle: Some would argue that such debates, while dramatic, are best held out in the open, where citizens can weigh in and decide what ideology (if any) is in their best interests. Do you feel your actions have negatively impacted the quality of the incoming election?

ProfessorHenn: I feel it did. I understand where I went wrong. I understand why it shouldn't have been done, and why it won't happen again. But it's been done, and now, our elections have gotten a little worse. I only hope the region realizes how bad this style of campaigning is, and I pray it doesn't occur by any of our candidates. To be fair, I had no clue a discussion on Foreign Policy could be started up with a click of the mouse. Had I known that earlier, I would have taken the better way a lot sooner, skipping over the bad way.

Kringle: Will you still be running for Delegate in the incoming elections?

ProfessorHenn: Yes. A good man can face adversity. A great man can thrive in it.

Kringle: I of course wish you good luck. Thanks for taking the time tonight.

ProfessorHenn: Of course, and thanks. I promise this election, and the rest, not to campaign where everyone can't see. No PMs asking for votes. No IRC queries about why you voted for the other side. No, I have learned at least one lesson out of this. I can only hope that TSP allows for a second chance.
