World Factbook Entry of A Blank Canvas as seen during the occupation

Soldiers from the Special Forces ended on July 2 the six-day occupation of A Blank Canvas, a founderless region that witnessed a large deployment of forces in conjunction with allied forces from Europeia and the North Pacific, eventually amounting to 20 puppets endorsing the lead nation.

Under lead nation Commander Keyes, the Special Forces contributed 8 soldiers to the occupation, a surge in participation no seen in years. Events were constantly updated in a mission report that included statistics and a roleplayed account of the original invasion, a fulfilment of the promise by Minister ProfessorHenn to make mission reports more appealing to the general public.

Deputy Minister Arbiter08 used the mission report to thank the contributing troops from DEN, Europeia and the North Pacific, who provided endorsement support, vital to continue the occupation longer than expected while repelling liberation attempts from the Spiritus Defence Force.

The occupation ended with the peaceful transfer of the delegacy to a native and the withdrawal of all troops. As indicated in the mission report, no natives were ejected or otherwise acted against at any point during the occupation.

Recall of ProfessorHenn Fails

A vote to recall ProfessorHenn as Minister of the Army failed on July 2 to garner the requisite 75% despite receiving the support of a majority of voters.

ProfessorHenn was being recalled due to the publication of logs showing a conversation where the former offered positions to Arbiter08, in exchange for him not running as Vice Delegate in the upcoming general election. This was allegedly related to a broader plan aimed at keeping Sandaoguo away from the Cabinet

This relevation was met with disappointment by several citizens, who stated that the logs affected their vote of ProfessorHenn. While others were more forceful in their condemnation, most citizens agreed that, while the revelation was certainly worrisome for the election, it was not related to the performance of Henn as Minister, and therefore did not merit a recall. The recall failed with a vote of 11-9, with four abstaining.

ProfessorHenn eventually expressed regret for his actions and assured the citizenry that he understood the wrongness of his actions. In an recent interview with the Southern Journal, he promised to run a transparent campaign and thrive despite the adversity, having learned from this recent incident.

Wolf Recalled as General

Wolf in his General uniform

Wolf was recalled on July 2 as General of the Special Forces after at vote of 17-4 in the Assembly, due to chronic inactivity and failure to discharge his duties.

Minister ProfessorHenn initiated recall proceedings two months after nominating him, arguing that in that time he had not risen up to the challenge, his most noteworthy action being an incomplete guide on military gameplay, that was soon replaced with one written by Arbiter08.

Despite his rising popularity in the last general election, this time few argued on behalf of Wolf, given the evidence presented by ProfessorHenn. Some asked for Wolf to be given time to defend himself, but in four days he failed to post in the relevant thread.

With the recall of Wolf, the General Corps is again down to two members. If ProfessorHenn does not nominate someone before his term ends, it will be the task of the next minister to nominate a third and final member. Current generals are ProfessorHenn and the Resentine Kingdom.

Assembly Rejects the Proxy Appeals Ban

The Assembly debating the amendment

The Assembly rejected on Wednesday by a vote of 14-7 a Charter amendment that would have prevented users from appealing bans on account of proxy use.

Technical Administrator Sandaoguo proposed the amendment as a way to enable administrators to ban the use of proxies and ensure forum and regional security. While most agreed with that basic premise, some expressed some doubts about letting admins ban a user who had legitimate reasons to use a proxy or preventing them from appealing the decision.

With this rejection administrators still remain powerless to ban the use of proxies. Sandaoguo has said that he will introduce an amendment to the current Moderation Policies, which do not need Assembly approval, to ban the use of proxies.

Okay, I gotta ask, why does Wolf have what looks like a second-grader's artwork there? Smile

For the record, the ban on proxy use would have always included exceptions for reasonable usage of proxies. Adding it to the list of administrative actions that can't be appealed didn't mean there would be a blanket ban. It simply meant users wouldn't be able to appeal, which makes sense given that an appeal would simply boil down to he-said-she-said with the Justices having no ability to independently verify anything. The bottom line is that the Assembly, Cabinet, and High Court aren't responsible for the IT security of our forums. Admins are. There is a difference between the type of security threats that are more related to NS Gameplay, and some very basic and common-sense website security measures.

I mostly agree. At least we can ban proxy use. What I regret is having to direct appeals to the Court, when admins are more capable of handling this issue, given its more technical nature.
