I've had a space Programme since the 50s. I'd be the one studying them for a while, along with anyone else who has a modern space program. Ground telescopes are only good so far before space telescopes get way better.

You don't need a space programme to simply study other celestial bodies. Just look at Italian astronomers from the 17th century (RL Earth). Besides, the moon is there, in plain sight for anyone to study it. You can't say that one single nation was the undisputed first to study it, given the current state of our history building.

I'm still skeptical about how two moons would effect the planet it's self, I'm not great at this stuff so I've been trying to do some research and these sites: Universe Today - What if Earth had Two Moons? & Quora - What would happen if Earth had multiple moons? make some interesting points. As long as someone with better knowledge of physics can settle my mind that the extra moon wont mean we have to deal with nights as bright as days and crazy tidal surges I would be happy with the idea.

One other thing though; if you do go for the lizard theme Komodo should be the bigger moon, Iguana's are tiny in comparison. Tounge
