We don't have an "obligation." But it goes with our democratic form of government. I think the best argument is simply that closed regions aren't welcoming. How enticing is a forum where the only threads you can see are spam and cit apps?

We had "unwritten" (unwritten in forms of legislation, there was a post that specified) rule that the Private Assembly forum was for treaty/war discussions and "sensitive TSP" information. I dont think general discussions should be taking place here. Regardless of the reasons by the original poster, if its not sensitive to the assembly, or a treaty/war declaration, it doesnt belong in this subforum.

Agreed. As an example, the only closed forum in the Magisterium, the legislative body of The East Pacific, is a Foreign Affairs subforum (I don't think that's a state secret.). If it pertains to the region to the exclusion of other regions, it should be seen by everyone in the region.

So democratic regions should be showing their proceedings to people who aren't citizens of the region? That seems to be an odd definition of democracy.

I have no problem with having more discussions in the main area, I just don't get this outcry of travesty surrounding the issue.

It's not a "travesty." I was just giving a light reminder for posts going forward.

This.

The only compelling argument I see for having the Assembly discussions open is the attempt to entice nonmembers from registering. I don't really care what other regions do.

For the record, I'm not going to move threads, but after this discussion, I'll follow GR's request that we keep most discussions to the main Assembly room.
