Believe it or not, I had this nation planned out since well before I found NS. I imagined it as an island in the North Atlantic, member of NATO, with friendly relations with the US (but sometimes opposed to its policies), Canada, the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, India, and others.
It would have a neutral role in the Israel-Palestine conflict, recognizing both countries. It would also support countries like Ukraine and Tunisia in their transition to democracy (and, sometimes covertly, movements with the same objectives around the world, such as the Free Syrian Army). @Hammerstar: North Korea!? O_O If your country stated that in public it would have as many sanctions as Russia

I always imagined Hammerstar to be like a civilisation that had survived man-made and natural apocalypses. It protects whatever beauty left in the world against war hungry imperialists and bandits.
