DEN takes The West Pacific

The infamous raider group DEN has reportedly taken control of The West Pacific, a Game-Created Region known for its unorthodox views on off-site government legitimacy. The coup occurred early in the morning on September 22, 2015, securing the Delegate seat as former Delegate United RussoAsia “switched sides” according to a statement released by DEN. The coup reportedly capitalized on displeasure surrounding United RussoAsia’s diplomatic stance towards The Pacific. The embassies between The Pacific and The West Pacific were closed by Pacifican Emperor Pierconium citing United RussoAsia’s “poor leadership.” Impeachment proceeding were started on September 20, 2015.

It is unclear what DEN had hoped to accomplish with their move, other than to place their names in headlines. Experienced raiders have questioned DEN’s ability to hold The West Pacific for any substantial amount of time, unless they were to dedicate all of their mobility to the region. DEN was last seen offering tongue-in-cheek application for control over The West Pacific, citing the amount of spam in the Regional Message Board as their reason for wanting to give the region away.

Overnight, soldiers from the South Pacific Special Forces moved in to support Mediobogdum. SPINN errs on the side of caution calling this person the “legitimate Delegate,” as The West Pacific has a long history of disregarding the notion of delegate legitimacy. However, Mediobogdum is being reported as the “emergency delegate.”

The Pacific issued a statement on the coup early in the morning on September 22, offering safe haven for all nations banned from The West Pacific. In a rare move of The Pacific getting involved in Gameplay affairs, Emperor Pierconium stated, “If United RussoAsia had opted to remain in control of the Delegacy and either acted in a manner befitting the role of ‘Feeder Delegate’ (i.e. actually contributing to the governance of the region) or maintained his own status quo then the Pacific and New Pacific Order would have maintained their neutrality.” Despite DEN’s violation of The West Pacific’s sovereignty, Pierconium also reassured DEN that there was no animosity between them or between DEN and The West Pacific.

DEN’s actions call into question the SPSF’s own relationship with the raider group. DEN has provided support to the SPSF in the past, though the relationship between the two armies is more casual than close.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hileville has not released a statement on the events, neither has the Cabinet. Delegate Feirmont did post a message of support in The West Pacific’s embassy. The South Pacific has no formal relations with The West Pacific, which has been the standard policy for years because of The West Pacific’s refusal to recognize the Coalition as the only legitimate government of The South Pacific.

This is a developing story.

ProfessorHenn Resigns from High Court

Chief Justice ProfessorHenn unexpectedly resigned from the High Court on September 15, 2015. In a brief resignation post, he offered the following advice to the region:
“I resign my position as High Court Justice and as Chief Justice.

Fix the fucking court system, please? Elected Judges are not the way to go.”

Although no explanation was given in his resignation, ProfessorHenn posted in Treasure Island that he was recovering from an internet addiction and could no longer play NationStates. He leaves behind a legacy of reviving the South Pacific Special Forces, which lingered in inactivity for months before his tenure as Minister of the Army.

A special election for ProfessorHenn’s vacant High Court seat began on September 23, 2015. At the time of publishing, no potential candidates had accepted their nomination. The previous High Court election was a major disappointment to the region, as few players stepped up to the plate to run.

Potential nominees include SeanNadasky, who ran in the last election but failed to garner enough support, and former Delegate Tsunamy. SeanNadasky would likely have an uphill climb in winning the special election, unless he can prove his experience and judgement. While Tsunamy would be the immediate front-runner if he were to run, his activity levels have been low since his departure as Delegate due to real-life commitments. There was a late effort to get Sandaoguo to run in the last election, but the former Minister of Foreign Affairs declined to resign his position as Election Commissioner in order to run. Given that Kris Kringle is the Election Commissioner for this special election, it is possible that Sandaoguo will be nominated.

However, should the Assembly rush through the Great Council Act of 2015, the special election would be immediately cancelled and the Cabinet would appoint a temporary Justice until the Great Council's conclusion. At this point, given the disagreements in the Assembly over the resolution, the special election will probably run according to schedule.
