Chair For Sam!

Campaigning for Chair of the Assembly isn’t like the other cabinet positions; it has a largely administrative role and there’s little that CoA can do, which any other citizen can’t. I do have a few ideas as to what I’d try and achieve in my term, though:

Fellowship Program - Take advantage of this wonderful initiative and have a few volunteer “Assembly Mentors”, whose will be there to help people learn how to legislate, and to improve their knowledge and abilities. They would also give possible lectures about legislating and understanding the laws. These mentors could also have future collaborations with the MoFA to work with influential members of other regions and gain knowledge and experience from other regions.

Making The Assembly A Welcoming Place - For too long, the assembly has been a bit toxic, at times. As CoA, I’d like to bring an easy going and welcoming nature to the assembly. Make it a place where people can come and post their ideas, without worrying about getting insulted, and regardless of whether they’ve been on NS for a decade, or an hour. Healthy debate needs to be encouraged, but offensive and toxic behaviour needs to be eliminated. I no longer want people to be able to say they don’t want to take part in the assembly, because of the toxic environment. I want it to be a credit to us as a region, and a reason for new people to join us here.

Great Councils - There is a place for GC’s, and there is a place for assembly discussions. They can coexist, we just need to find the place for them. I’d like to guide the assembly towards finding this place, so that GC’s can be utilised, like the effective and useful tools they can be.

Before anyone asks, yes I am new to this position. I’ve got experience throughout the region, being a former Vice Delegate and Local Councillor, and a current member of the CSS. What I may lack in experience here, I feel I make up for with my enthusiasm. If every position required massive amounts of experience, the region would never change, and we’d be stuck in the same old cycle.

Any questions you have, I will try and answer promptly and comprehensively. Don’t hold back!

What is the purpose of a Great Council?

A great council is used to rewrite and review laws, on a large scale. Unfortunately a lot of people are of the opinion that regular assembly business can do that just as well, so I'd like to lead a review on GC's to try and fix it and make it something that has a point and will operate more effectively than the regular assembly.

How are you going to make the assembly a more welcoming place? If memory serves correctly, a few CoA's in the past have promised the same thing yet... we still have a good deal of toxicity.

More specifically, do you view GCs as mere "amendment parties," or actual constitutional conventions?
