Appointment for Citizenship Apps
#11

There's literally no hole here; Tsu just has to appoint DM as a Cabinet member.

He can, but he'd have to wait until March to do it. That's why DM wasn't just appointed VD, but instead was appointed just to handle cit apps. The resolution we passed doesn't suspend the vacancy law that says the Delegate can only appoint if the vacancy occurred in the month prior to the start of the next term.

No, you're not, you're trying to emphasize the fact that apparently no one other than you can write sufficient legislation. There's no humor in it; I find it rather upsetting that people insist on finding holes in commonsense solutions.

For the record, I'm withdrawing my nomination as DM to process citizenship applications. Instead, I'm appointing myself to process them. They'll be done by tonight.

For the record, I'm using the same statute I cited earlier, but since I'm a Cabinet member, I trust it'll be an acceptable solution.

Thanks all. Sorry for the confusion.

Actually, the above only applies if DM is appointed anything but the VD. tThe relevant law here for the VD is the Line of Succession:

Quote:Section 6 – Line of Succession
1. In the event that the Delegate is removed from office, resigns from office, or is banned from the World Assembly, the Vice Delegate shall immediately assume the office of the Delegate.
2. In the event that the office of the Vice Delegate is vacant, the Delegate shall nominate a replacement, who must be confirmed with a 50%+1 majority vote by the Assembly.
3. Until such time as a replacement Vice Delegate is confirmed the highest ranking member of the CSS line of succession shall serve as Acting Vice Delegate.

The VD office is vacant. Tsu can submit DM as a VD, which the Assembly has to confirm. In the meantime, Kris is technically the Acting VD, since he's the highest ranking member of the CSS now that Tsu is Delegate.

Ugh...

The law is not a suicide pact. Everyone knows what needs to be done, so why not just let it be done, instead of finding legal technicalities to prevent it? Do you not want any citizen applications to be processed before elections or something?

Tbh, the resolution we should have passed is this one by Kris. It left no holes in the laws, because it appointed an entire Cabinet and tied up all loose ends.

Hindsight is 20/20, etc. I voted for the one we have, after all.

Yeah -- it's such a shame when you expect people to be reasonable and they turn out not to be.

The laws lead to one or two specific outcomes, if we follow them by the letter.

If we agree that nobody is going to try to raise the issue the court, then who cares if DM isn't technically a Cabinet member.

My posts in this thread have just been apathetically laughing at how we screwed up the resolution, when we were all assuming it was pretty clear.

I don't think citizenship applications should be accepted currently as elections have to start either today, tomorrow or Friday. Typically we don't accept citizenship applications before elections however I wouldn't really mind since people haven't had a chance to be a citizen for a long time now.

The think is Punch, that if their not processed before the elections a bunch of people - myself included - will be excluded from the elections, skewing the results as the people currently without citizenship were predominately on one side of the dispute.
