Cabinet's Appointment of a World Assembly Advisor
#1

In an effort to increase our participation and influence in the World Assembly, the Cabinet has taken the executive action to name Railana TSP's World Assembly Advisor.

Along with powers to moderate the World Assembly forums, Railana will also been given powers to take polls and update the WFE in-game.

Please offer congratulations to Railana!

Just asking, will this position be one of which the Cabinet appoints, or one that will be voted on in an election?
I am Zadiner/Zak. Part of Assembly, some other stuff, Founder of some other region.
Hey, I have a bunch of issues. You don't need to care.

Question; how do you, as an active and involved member of the WA, plan on exercising this office? How "ideologically" balanced to do you plan to be re; thinks like the IntFed vs. NatSov issue?

For the moment, this position is appointed by the Cabinet. That very well may change after the Great Council, though. I know I'll be pushing for explicit recognition in the Charter of some kind of governmental entity responsible for World Assembly affairs, but I'm not sure what that'll ultimately look like.

For reference, I've described the responsibilities that I think this position should entail here

Fortunately, my regular duties -- which will primarily consist of creating forum threads, in-game polls, and links in the WFE for new resolutions -- have little to do with my own political views. In addition, when providing drafting assistance, I intend to be politically neutral. There are plenty of thoughtful, well-written resolutions that I simply disagree with; my goal will be to bring proposals to the former state without worrying about the latter, if that makes any sense.

With that said, my own views will certainly influence any recommendation I issue on how I think residents of the South Pacific should vote on a particular resolution; that's pretty much unavoidable. Nobody, including the delegate, is obliged to vote the way I recommend they do, though; it's just another point of view to consider.

I don't really think the national sovereigntist versus international federalist dichotomy is particularly useful. Everybody who votes for a resolution (except for repeals) is a little bit of an international federalist, after all! If you want to ascertain someone's political views in the context of the World Assembly, you really need to go issue by issue and ask them whether they support World Assembly regulation on that issue, and most importantly what kind of regulation they support. A supporter of World Assembly legalization of recreational drugs and a supporter of World Assembly prohibition of the same are both international federalists; that label really doesn't tell you much.

I want to just reiterate this point here. Previously, this position was appointed by the MoFA or really by however wanted to do it. We appoint Railana by executive decision currently, but I strongly think we should discussion details and responsibilities in the GC.
