Australian Aboriginal Peoples
#1

After this:

Top politician says Australia was invaded - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-35922858

There is a controversy in Australia whether Britain invaded or discovered(by James Cook) Australia.

And this made me wonder: should Australia do more to help its aboriginal population? Or has it done enough?

I'd say yes, there is more to be done. Racism against the aboriginal peoples must end, and the government must do more to integrate into society.

This also made me wonder: did Britain invade Australia? What do you think?

I'd rather not say invade, but colonize. After all, there wasn't a single unified aboriginal nation(that I know of). They were not(formally) invaded. Yet, this is not a comment downplaying the horrible atrocities the British did against them, all in the name of EMPIRE. And it is shocking that Australia continued to deny them rights until the 70's(I think? Whatever, the article says "recent decades", so its recent).

But in a posinegitive(a new word I created to describe such atrocity, but still better than another horrible atrocity) account, they did better than Spain(Spain basically extinguished the Taino People, the Indigenous Peoples in parts of the Caribbean, in less than a century).

This thread is also about Australian Aboriginal Peoples in general.

Colonization is a much nicer name for invasion and subjugation.

As for whether or not institutionalized racism is a good idea, I think we can all agree that it isn't.
