The Shameless Self-Promotion Thread!
#11

So, my signature is already shamelessly promoting this, but I thought I'd take the time to actually talk about the two web fiction series listed there, as their names might not mean an awful lot to people (in fact I'm sure they won't).

Shadow is my first and longest-running web fiction series.  It tells the tale of an English lad called Ellis Graves who, apparently by accident' finds himself transported to the city-world of Shadow, filled with strange monsters, impossible steampunk machines and an assortment of mad scientist types.  He quickly discovers that his arrival there was less than accidental and various slightly insane adventures follow.

Read it if you like steampunk (but aren't too picky about the kind of steampunk you like - there's almost no steam in this one, for instance).  Don't read it if you're looking for a great work of literature.  Shadow is mainly just good fun.

Murkland is a very different beast.  It's a supernatural horror story set in a city very (very) much like the one I'm living in right now: Aberdeen, Scotland.  It's inspired by the Silent Hill video games, has strongly religious overtones and is generally filled with things that creep me out.

Read it if you like Silent Hill-esque supernatual horro.  Don't read it if you're squeamish or easily offended.

Neither of these stories are finished, although Shadow goes on for four and a bit lengthy volumes before reaching the current hiatus.  If you like them (and tell me), however, there's a good chance I'll feel encouraged to keep going.

So, since this thread is turning into a worryingly OP-focussed kind of self-promotion... here I go again!

Meisai/Camouflage a capella jazz cover. The original is by Shiina Ringo (video here, lyrics and English translation here). I've wanted to give it a go for a while.

Now someone else please share something!

And another new recording. This time it's a cover of First Love, by Utada Hikaru.

It's been over a month since my last recording, so here are two, chosen for their seasonal appropriateness:

Jack's Lament (from The Nightmare Before Christmas - a capella cover)

TNBC is my favourite Christmas movie, so ,of course, I chose it to represent Halloween.

10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman (a capella cover)

The more I sing this the more I love it. Chosen for All Souls Day (today).

Another song, this time one written a long time ago for a novel I never finished.

You really have to imagine it being sung with a sultry female vocalist and piano accompaniment for best effect.
