Cormac wants to know our position on Osiris
#1

Cormac sent me the following telegram:
Quote:Greetings, Minister Sandaoguo.
As you're already aware, as a former citizen of the South Pacific I was aware of discussions that occurred in the private chambers of the Assembly of the South Pacific regarding the status of relations between the South Pacific and Osiris. It was my understanding at the time I resigned citizenship that the Cabinet of the South Pacific had intended to release a statement terminating relations with Osiris due to the conflict that occurred in Osiris in April.
Since that time, no statement has been released and relations between our regions have continued without interruption. Other officers of our government have inquired about the status of our relations, and I have given only vague answers that we should give the South Pacific time and breathing room as you've been dealing with much more pressing issues, and that I don't know where we stand. Following recent Cabinet elections in the South Pacific, I have again had inquiries from other officers of our government about how those elections may impact relations between the South Pacific and Osiris. I have avoided mentioning the discussions in the Assembly of the South Pacific that I personally witnessed, because I believe it would be an inappropriate abuse of my access to your Assembly to disclose that information to other officers of the Osiran government.
I hope with the new Charter enacted and the new Cabinet elected, now is the right time to request clarification in regard to the status of relations between our regions.
I'll conclude by congratulating you on your recent election to the office of Minister of Foreign Affairs. Please extend my congratulations to the rest of the newly elected Cabinet as well, and to the citizens of the South Pacific on the successful ratification of a new Charter.
Regards,

Pharaoh of the Osiris Fraternal Order

I've drafted up a response here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1GMdmMK...MVE1e3eO2g

Quote:Response to Request by Osiris

To the Pharaoh of Osiris, Cormactopia II:

The Cabinet has convened and considered your request for comment on the status of relations between our two regions. First, the results of the Assembly poll are non-binding, so the outcome is not pertinent to our decision here. While we are not at liberty to divulge the contents of the debate, we can say that the Transitional Government at the time did not seem to have support among the Coalition’s Assemblypersons.

As Osiris must know, the Coalition recently fought against a coup d’etat by the rogue Delegate Hileville. This Cabinet cannot stress how much this harmed our community, and how much we cannot abide by coups d’etat anytime, anywhere. No benefit can come from a handful of people granting themselves power over the democratic process. Changes in government must come from a truly fair democratic vote. If we resort to extralegal actions to get what we want, what is to stop the next group of dissidents from doing the same? It’s a vicious cycle that breeds endless animosity.

In January 2015, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravenclaw approached the Cabinet with a similar request from Osiris as we are responding to today. It doesn’t seem that it went anywhere. Due to the purposeful avoidance of forum-based communication by Hileville’s Cabinet, we cannot say if Minister of Foreign Affairs Sopo had Osiris on his agenda or not. So, the status of The South Pacific-Osiris relations remains what it has been since the fall of Kemetic Order in September 2013. That is, the status is in limbo, though our pragmatic recognition of the Osiris Fraternal Order in February 2014 still stands.

We have concerns about the long-term stability of Osiris. Entering into more formal relations while it’s not clear that the culture of Osiris does not condemn coups d’etat, would put the Coalition at risk of having to deal with a diplomatic fallout should Osiris undergo yet another non-democratic regime change. In addition to that risk, we cannot be confident that Osiris would oppose a coup d’etat in The South Pacific, should such a disaster ever happen again.

We are hopeful that relations between us can be positive and fruitful again at some point in the future. A vibrant and fully democratic Osiris would be a boon to NationStates and the Game-Created Region community. An Osiris that takes a principled stand against coups d’etat would be a welcome addition to our alliances. At the request of Osiris, the Cabinet will act in any way it can to help Osiris promote these goals.

Thoughts?

As discussed earlier, I am fine with the statement as is. Nicely done.
I'd like to see if the rest of the cabinet has any input, and then do a quick approval vote.

Yeah, no. I'm not signing off on anything that overly exaggerates and compares what we in the TG did to what Cormac has done in Osiris.

I've changed the following paragraph, based on a suggestion DM gave in Discord:

Quote:As Osiris must know, the Coalition is no stranger to coups d'etat: Sedgistan/Devonitians, Milograd, and Hileville. This Cabinet cannot stress how disruptive these were to our community, and how much we cannot abide by coups d’etat anytime, anywhere.

I'd also like to move this paragraph below the "In January 2015" paragraph, so there's better flow in why I'm mentioning our coups in the first place.

I do think that is better, thank you.
