Forum Reorginization |
As you may have noticed here, the admin team has put forward a proposal for the reorganization of the forums.
This is to keep the forum structure as simple as possible, and reduce some of the clutter we have accumulated over the years. I urge you to share your opinions on the matter within the thread. Separate from the main topic of that thread, another issue has been raised within it on how, when, and if new organizations will receive their own sub forum. One of the forum admins has requested here that we create executive policy on how, when, and if new organizations will receive their own sun forum. In this thread I would like to discuss this issue, how we all feel about it, and what, if any executive policy we should create in order to allow it. Please share your thoughts below. Semi-Unretired
My thoughts (already shared via discord, but now here for posterity and cleaned up):
I strongly believe in a free and equal press, no matter the source (this was one of my campaign positions). Therefore, no matter how we decide to go forward, it's incredibly important to me that we don't distinguish SPN, SJ, and SPINN based on their publisher, but solely on their format and merit. Separating based on merit is a subjective thing, and the formats are all written, with subtle differences that don't warrant distinction in this way. So therefore, either they all get a sub-forum, or none of them do. Having said that, there are a myriad problems with giving a forum to each news source - and contriving an answer to each of those will inevitably lead to a ton of flak:
Thanks Roavin for your thoughts.
Originally I was thinking we could set a few requirements for when a news outlet would receive its own sub forum. For example, At Least X News Article per month, X Months of Consecutive activity, etc. That might have been an option if we had more news outlets than we actually do. Now I am thinking along the same lines as Roavin. We just need one forum for all journalism to be posted in, for now. Anyone else have a different idea or opinion on this, besides the one stated by Roavin and I? Semi-Unretired
How's this?
Freedom of the press has always been a staple right in the history of the Coalition, guaranteed by nothing less than the Charter (Article III, Section 1). As such, it's not befitting for this Cabinet to pronounce judgements on the kind of presentation each news source deserves or is entitled to in our region, but rather the cabinet should be ensuring that any news source has the chance to fairly compete for the attention of the readership of the region. Noting the above and considering the Administration's request to keep the forum count low, the Cabinet of the South Pacific recommends a single forum for all news sources. This approach is absolutely fair as no news source has an advantage over any other on the forums; simultaneously, the post count of news articles is not expected to become so excessive as to clutter up the first page of that forum for any regular visitor. Thank you. The Cabinet of the South Pacific July 4, 2016
