Southern Journal: October 2016 Elections - Pre-Election Poll
#1

As part of our coverage of the upcoming elections (with Cabinet elections starting on October 1, and Local Council elections following immediately thereafter), the Southern Journal has conducted a poll of South Pacificans to gauge the region’s opinions on desirable candidates for the various offices up for vote. Residents were polled on whether or not they would re-elect the incumbent office holder, and given a write-in choice for suitable alternative candidates. Only those who listed themselves as legislators took the cabinet portion of the poll, whilst all citizens took the Local Council portion of the poll.

The poll was held for five days, from September 25 to September 30. The poll was promoted on the forum, via Discord, and via the RMB. In total, 24 citizens replied, of which 20 noted that they are registered as legislators. The raw results can be viewed here.

Commentary

While the turnout among “forum-goers” was pretty good, it was disappointing to see few non-legislators answer the poll. As a result, while the Cabinet results should give good indications for the upcoming elections, the Local Council results are likely skewed and may not reflect the actual opinion-at-large of the in-game region.

Two of the Cabinet results stand out. The position for Minister of Regional Affairs shows a strong intent of the region to give Erinor/Seraph the mandate. The position for Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the other hand, is the least clear of all positions, and it will surely be interesting to see which candidates present themselves for the position.

A few amusing responses were given in the write-ins. One person noted “Cormac and friends” for the Local Council, and “Cormac” for every Cabinet position except MoMA, where “Tim Vasentius, High Constable of HYDRA” was written in, an amalgamation of  Tim Stark, High Constable of the Grey Wardens, and Tom Vasentius of HYDRA. One person wrote “Anyone who has not been a delegate or in an official position in TSP yet. Time for some fresh blood in this old cobweb cabinet!”.

I love that it's an "old cob webbed Cabinet" when Roavin and Erinor are brand new to elected office and really ... Imki is like a term out.
