The Commission on Procedure (COP)
#11

I've got to agree with Far here - it seems rather absurd to pick people who not only have never served as CoA or an equivalent post elsewhere, but haven't even any experience writing legislation.

I cannot stress this enough: the commission is going to work together and we will do the best we can; which I am sure will be rather good. And everything we recommend will be subject to debate here in the Assembly where I am sure all of the former CoA's will provide input. I know we did something that may look a bit odd but I have faith in this group of people.
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Not to sound sour about it, but... This doesn't make any sense. You expect Bel & myself to provide input into whatever COP comes up with. A debate you have to preside over. But you reject us being part of COP in the first place because you don't want to preside over a debate between us. It sounds like you weren't seeing the forest for the trees, there. That your personal opinions eclipsed merit.

As your say yourself, we'll have input because this must be brought to the full Assembly. That none of the members of COP are highly experienced former Chairs only increases the likelihood that what COP comes up with will be drastically changed during full Assembly debate. That raises the question of what COP's purpose is anyways.

Anyways, I'm fairly consumed with setting up the General Assembly Secretariat, where I'm literally already doing the same thing as COP will be. So I imagine I wouldn't have been as involved as I would've if COP was organized earlier.

So best of luck. Looking forward to critiquing the outcome. Given Roavin's involvement in helping to write our current set of laws, it was a good idea to pick him.

I want to make a couple points here.

First, while I generally agree that it would be useful to have some more experienced people on the COP, I don't think we can fault Omega for attempting to skirt a Bel-Glen fight. This isn't anything personal against you guys — and both of your input is incredibly useful — but, I don't think the animosity between you can be denied. I know Omega isn't the only person who's attempted to balance this.

Second, one of the benefits of having people who haven't been as involved in the drafting and writing of our current legal system means they might be able to reimagine it. Sure, we might want to change it, but it might give us a different starting point.

Third, I don't really like the public nature of all of this. I think we're getting really into the realm of hurt feelings. Both from the application process and all of these responses. Moreover, I hope Omega was aware his private message was going to be post publicly, otherwise ... that was a shitty thing to do.

Thanks Tsu.
I'm going have to remind you about you know language , but I was not told my PM would posted on here. Personally I try to respect the private part of private and maybe some people need to be reminded of that.
And I just want to remind everyone we are not changing our selections. Just throwing that out there
Above all else, I hope to be a decent person.

Yes well Far has never understood the idea of a private conversation.

Omega is not and should not change the selection of the candidates, instead of having a winge because you weren't picked, why don't you work with those who were and give them your full backing. I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome of COP, those who were selected have my complete backing I'm sure they will do an excellent job and I hope you all will also give the selected candidates the support they deserve.

...Finally, someone that shares my feelings in this row! I did not want to respond here because of what happened here, but I thank Tsu for this comment. My gratitude goes to you, kind sir.

I would've liked both Bel and Glen. I indeed recognize your experience and vast knowledge on our laws. But, well, I was deterred by your rivalry. I wished to avoid that, because, who doesn't?

I apologize if you have not been chosen. This was not personal, and I think Omega and me made the best decision, in a best-case scenario, or a good compromise, in a worst-case scenario. Again, I recognize your vast and bountiful collaborations and knowledge, but rivalries are another matter. I implore you to accept our decision, and look at why we made it. Besides, who does not like new blood for the long-term TSP?

I had issued my concerns on the actions of an elected official, and given the response I received it felt appropriate to put that statement on the public record. As I said in my post, I don't like it when people try to hide away these political concerns in a private chat rather than state it to the region. This region is still a democracy and all I asked for was some simple accountability.

I mean, my general concern is two-fold. I don't think we should be in habit of making believed private communication public without consent or knowledge of the person. I know things I say privately could be hurtful if released publicly and — for the most part — I attempt to be really tactful when making public assertions about others.

My issue isn't with the accountability or with you wanting Omega to state this publicly. I just want to make sure people know where their communication is ending up and making sure it doesn't inadvertently hurt others. That's all.
