Decorum of the Assembly
#1

With respect to decorum a general code of conduct promoting civility and respect may be a good start, especially when granting admins and moderators the power to suppress individuals who breach decorum.
#2

So overarching themes of decorum:

  • No Harassment
  • No suppression of speech
  • No excluding members (who are newer and perceived as less experienced)
  • No explicit language/offensive content
These are general examples of decorum... The charter pretty clearly addresses that part...

In relation to the moderators and admins, I think that, should they suppress an individual or individuals, they must report it to another admin or the moderator of the subforum, inform the suppressed person as to why, and give reason to the assembly should they ask for it.

Am I on the right track?

Agreed, while the charter addresses much of the decorum, I would recommend we codify the procedures for mods and admins suppressing individual users in the unlikely case that a user will breach decorum and heavily derail the debate. As well as put those mods and admins under the jurisdiction of the CoA and DCoA. This is largely due to the fact that the chair and deputy chair can not monitor the forums 24/7 and may require some assistance to do so.

Below is what came out of this topic, when we go to final drafts for this topic we will refer to this post, so we don't get lost in discussion. All the official ideas:

No Harassment
No suppression of speech
No excluding members (who are newer and perceived as less experienced)
No explicit language/offensive content
Basically, what the charter says, and the discretion of the CoA and DCoA
