What's hypocritical is questioning Farengeto's impartiality because of his friends (and that's what parties are), while not thinking the same of Raven, despite it being very public that he has enemies and freaks out a lot. I'm glad you're supporting Farengeto, but it wasn't fair in the first place to cast doubt on his ability to separate friendships from duties on the court.

Belonging to a political party shouldn't be the deciding factor of whether or not somebody's ability to be impartial is questioned. Raven was just as prone to unprofessionalism and bias from his nomination as he was on his last day. But he wasn't a member of a party, I guess. My point isn't to start a proxy war. But to point out that you're applying different standards in unfair ways, just because TIL labels ourselves a party instead of a friendship circle. The double standards have been happening since parties were formed, and those not in them have tended to get less scrutiny for no reason

As Chair of the APC, I completely agree. Parties are in TSPs future for the foreseeable future, and we shouldn't try and make it look like being in a party is a dead end road.

I want the party to grow and new players to not feel like they'll be looked down on or questioned if they join. We should evaluate *all* nominees and their professional character, without singling out party affiliates.

Then let's propose legislation saying that justices must resign from a party to be nominated.

Still, I think its disingenuous to claim parties are simply a circle of friends. We know better than that — circles of friends don't set up additional forums to discuss issues nor do their make directives on who to endorse or how people should vote. Nor do they choose who can and can't be accepted into the formal structure. You can frame this how you want, but political parties are horse of a different color; we're not going to pretend like it's business as usual.

It's not that membership should be considered a "dead end," but it's also fair game to ask how they feel they would handle such issues.

We used the TSP forums to plan our endorsement of CoA elections, and we plan to do the same for cabinet elections next week.

I could agree to only a suspension from the party, they are still a part of it, but they cannot participate in party discussion until they leave the court. It cuts off contact to the party, but they are still a part of it by name, there can't be a CoI if they cant participate in the party discussions.

Tsu, as if people haven't been using backdoors to plan who to endorse or who to support? That there's a forum doesn't preclude that actually people always have been doing that in TSP, at least the political parties are not doing it on IRC channels because we've made technological progress.

Maybe *your* circles of friends haven't done that, Tsu. But TIL grew out of a small group of friends who often *did* talk policy and vote in bloc. We *did* decide who to allow into our group chats, too.

TIL was created because I think parties are a stabilizing force in TSP. They put these circles in public view. Whereas before, people were being accused of forming secret corrupt cabals.
