Prime Minister/Appointed Cabinet Discussion
#11

(02-08-2017, 01:45 PM)Punchwood Wrote: I must thank you all however as you've proven my point perfectly. You all care too much about the status-quo than even think about supporting any change or any new idea from anyone. I can see why Tsu would not like this, it would mean some real competition for him come Delegate elections. Tsu like DM has no record to defend so everyone thinks he's done an amazing job. When there is nothing for you to defend as there is nothing for you to do, you'll have always done a good job and so there is no need for someone to challenge you, and so the status-quo remains the same.

Punch, I'm personally a bit offended by this assertion. I am happy with that there was a lot of interest in the delegate election and am equally disappointed that we don't have more candidates for Cabinet elections.

While I get what you're getting at, the most important here in that the delegate seat should not be changing hands every four months. The idea here is that the PM is the head of government so we don't have to turn over the controls every four months. Again, I think you're taking DM's humility too literally.

I personally don't endorse Roavin's statement in that you have a long history of serving the region and I think there's space for you here. However, I don't really appreciate being maligned as power hungry, considering I'm pretty much anything but.

That was quite uncalled for, and either flaming or dangerously close to being so. You can vehemently disagree with someone, but as Tsunamy proved in his above post, it's entirely possible to do so in a civil and respectful manner. We are here to debate the issues, after all, not to take shots at each other. Maybe you feel Punchwood behaved in an unbecoming manner, and that's fair, but if do, you still shouldn't do stoop to that level.

--

Perhaps Punchwood was a bit blunt in his remarks, but I feel part of his underlying point has merit and is worth paying attention to. With regard to the visibility of the Prime Minister, I do believe they should be more visible as the regional head of government. Drugged Monkeys says his style is that of a moderator, one who lets the Cabinet act as needed. That is fair, everyone has their own governing style, but I do feel DM is in a unique position to help inform and promote the individual work of the Ministers and the collective work of the Cabinet.

This could be accomplished through actions as simple as addressing the region on a regular basis, setting goals that the Cabinet hopes to accomplish and accounting for the ones met since the last address, perhaps answering questions before the Assembly, even sending the occasional mass telegram. Having served several terms in the Cabinet, I understand that much of the work is done behind the scenes, and one often gets less recognition for the work one does, but the above are some steps that could be taken to ensure due credit is given, and most importantly, that the Cabinet provides regular and publicly available accounts of the work it does for the region.

In terms of the stagnation, I see where Punchwood is coming from. I do feel like things moved at a faster pace in years past. At the same time, I see what people mean when they insist that work has been done to keep the region active. It has, but to someone used to a different rhythm, it can feel otherwise. Perhaps the solution is just to consult with people with experience in government and to do surveys, to ensure that people like how the region is doing, to know if people think more could or should be done, and so on. There are always things to do with good organisation and activity-oriented planning, and even though good work is being done, better is always possible.

You can see this as an annoying, useless post, or as the good faith advice it is. Either way, it comes free. Smile

Wow. Nice to know that in the past two years, We still haven't gotten rid of our toxicity and Personal attacks. It also seems like our admin still don't know how to administrate.
This is a bloody game. You're all acting like real life politicians, not doing anything that actually matters and just attacking everyone. Roavin I've recently lost most respect for you. You're not the interested newcomer you once were. This is such a stupid game, and we all waste our lives on it. There is no need to be so awful to people you don't even know. We all just need to take a new look at this because this region looks as stupid as it did when I first joined, if not way more.
I am Zadiner/Zak. Part of Assembly, some other stuff, Founder of some other region.
Hey, I have a bunch of issues. You don't need to care.

We generally know how to administrate. It's moderating that we don't like doing.

I think the issue here is that some offices - cabinet or not - have a heavier workload than others. But that's just how those positions operate...
Sometimes, an elected official puts in a ton of work, where another in that same position might have only done some. And that also depends on RL time. It's like Kris said... there's a lot behind the scenes that even other cabinet members don't see, let alone the Assembly or general public.

"Fuck off back to Europeia, we don't need you here." Is that really the best you can do? Happywide Maybe it's because I'certainly got the balls to say the truth and that's why you reacted so aggressively.
I never thought you'd go to that low. That was pathetic, if your going to insult me at least do so in a way that will hurt me, rather than make me laugh!

Punch — it's hardly the truth, although you seem to continue to ignore what I'm trying to tell you.

I also think you're missing the frustration that people feel when someone leaves the region and returns only to tell everyone else who they are doing things wrong. (This is not solely directed toward you, but there have been several examples this occurring.)

Again, we're happy to have to you here, but if you're going to hightail it for another region only to return and "drag" us, I understand why it's not appreciated.

I'm going to ask EVERYONE to tone down the rhetoric. Since we don't have a Chair of the Assembly presently, I'll invoke my dual role as delegate and administrator to give this thread a time out if we can't bring this back into line.

Thanks in advance.

At least you could reciprocate the entertainment by responding to the line-by-line debunking of your alternative truth, instead of going with Trump-ish argumentum ad lapidem Wink

No I'd need to end with "SAD!" to do that!

And Tsu I did kind of get that feeling when I wrote that, hence why I said "It may not be my change." and why I said in my opening post "in my opinion." I honesty don't care what kind of change the region goes through so long as it is change. It does not take a genus to work out that the region is in a bad place. Also Tsu I used DM's quote as a little joke, to drive the point home. Who went they are trying to be re-elected is going to say that they did nothing?
