Top Story: Reizen intervention.
by Isaki Kurenai
published by the Imperial Tribune

On the evening of February 14 the ultranationalist organization, the Eternal Frost Army (EFA), assassinated the Imperial Governor of Reizen island and several members of his staff. The EFA attempted to seize control of the island following Imperial legislation to improve the livelihood of the minority Ecori people, striking down the de facto apartheid state that had lurked below the island’s tranquil surface. Previously, during the years of isolation, Reizen island enjoyed centuries of autonomy and self-determination short of independence, but in recent years, the Home islands of Frost began to initiate a crackdown on some of the unsavory customs of the island such as the de facto segregation between the colonial Frosts and the indigenous people. This crackdown was caused by the ‘Hidden Walls’ report by Shin Veritas, an investigative journalist who saw the violations of Reizen’s Imperial charter first hand. The report led to the resignation of the previous Roku Denashi administration and Imperial Governor Eihm Arases, who administered the island at the time leading to the appointment and later election of the current president Kensei and the appointment of Governor Rei-fohm.

Resentful of the sudden loss of their authority and right to rule as they saw fit, several “elite” Frosts banded together to form the EFA. Lurking under the shadows of the Ultranationalist movement of the home islands, the EFA continued its plans for restoring the island to its apartheid state, recruiting many disgruntled colonial soldiers, influential colonists and several cadets. However, just before the EFA could succeed in legally restoring segregation under the Pupil acts, the Imperial Governor Guran Rei-Fohm, who under the direct mandate of both his Imperial Majesty the Frost Emperor and President Revan Kensei, dissolved the assembly of Reizen and pushed forward new elections that included many minority groups that were finally given suffrage by the Frost Self Defense Force. Thus, thwarting the EFA and causing them to retaliate against the governor.

Imperial Governor Guran Rei-fohm was visiting Hebi-ori Academy as a special speaker when he was gunned down by Isshin Akto a former Imperial Soldier who joined the EFA. Akto was aided by several Hebi-ori cadets who expressed their desires to return to the good old days when Reizen was free to chart its own path. Simultaneously, at the Reizen diet building, several members murdered Governor Rei-fohm’s political allies and cabinet members. A witness who refused to give their name for fear of reprisals said that the assailants could be heard shouting, ‘Death to the traitors!’ and, ‘Reizen for Frosts!’ Other members of the EFA also attempted to seize control of key buildings such as the Reizen administrative complex, Reizen Broadcasting corporation HQ, and other structures. In addition to attacking minority citizens the EFA also attacked Frost civilians suspected of protecting minorities. While they briefly seized these key locations, President Kensei signed an executive order dubbed operation blizzard which imposed a media blackout and allowed the deployment of the Imperial Sword to subdue the rebels instead of the FSDF soldiers on the ground who were ordered to protect civilians, but not attack the rebels. Following the authorization of the Imperial Sword members of the 212th Special air service and the 45th Marine division were dispatched to the island, where they proceeded to crush the rebels with extreme prejudice ending the rebellion in a matter of a few days. The total death toll including the death of the Imperial governor was 12 politicians, 560 civilians, 160 Frost Self Defense Force Soldiers,  332 EFE civilians, and 250 rogue soldiers. 28 cadets have been detained by the Frost Military at this time.

Because of the zealous nature in which the EFA was destroyed many speculate that the Imperial Frost Military may have killed some who might have attempted to surrender, but spared the cadets because they were below 18 years of age. It is unknown if the cadets will get a trial or if members of the press will be able to interview the survivors of this bloody incident. While the Imperial Tribune normally posts the surviving members of the victims' families, the Tribune has been asked not to identify them for security reasons. Furthermore, the victims and their families will be brought back to Oured where the Emperor will take care of the funeral costs and interment in a plot of their choice saying, “ Governor Rei-fohm and his compatriots are true heroes who gave up their lives to restore the rights of our citizens who were wrongfully oppressed and for that they have my heartfelt gratitude.”

High Court Decision Opens Way for House of Scholars Campaigning

The Erinoran High Court has finally given its judgement on the case brought to it by the former leader of the Marcorar[/i/] of [i]Syemarar Arutyarcad, Marcoro asa’si Arkhando nwikheo te’si back in November.  The Marcoro asa’si filed the legal case against the government after the passing of it’s Khasa Yanorirs bill on the 24th November by a margin of 211 votes to 96 with 17 abstentions.  The plaintiff believed that the changes being put forward by the government in the bill, which would see the ancient Khasa Marcoral Arutyarcad being replaced as the upper house of the nation’s legislature, were unconstitutional.

The judgement, read in the Erinoran High Court on the morning of 18th February, before being related to the press outside, was unanimous in declaring that there was nothing unconstitutional about the Khasa Yanorirs bill and that the Khasa Massirs, the lower house of Erinor’s parliament, retains the sovereign right, given to it by the people of Erinor, to restructure the mechanisms of democracy in the interests of the people.

The  High Court ruling removes all remaining blocks on the government’s plans for the new upper house, which will see the hereditary and largely conservative Marcorar replaced with experts in various fields, elected by proportional representation.  The election is now officially slated to take place on Thursday 20th April and permission has been given for the various experts and academics chosen by their parties to begin campaigning as soon as possible.  The Government has also stated that it will be sending out an information booklet on the new upper house and the elections to all Erinoran households within the week.

Campaigning has already begun on the island of Sereva, however, as the candidates for the Serevan nationalist party, Massa e Sereva were paraded through the streets of Ramica.  Ruso nuico, Massa e Sereva’s press officer, said that the new upper house gave Serevan’s an unprecedented opportunity to gain more influence in parliament and ensure that laws are enacted with the welfare of the Serevan people in mind.  Some commentators have suggested that more Serevan nationalists in the upper house will make little to no difference to the effectiveness of the government for the Serevan people, but the crowds in Ramica say differently.

The Calm Before the Storm?

So, it’s been pretty quiet in TSP RP since the dramatic events of New Year, with things just ticking over gradually and most stuff building in the background.  The recent cabinet elections and festival activities may have had something to do with it, or it may just be that time of year.  But, just because it’s been quiet, doesn’t mean there hasn’t been something to talk about.

We’ve been pleased to see the return of Omega, for example, and the Pecuniam Stock Exchange, which aims to reflect the events of the RP world in a financial context.  Then there has been the GCR RP Discord Server started by The Grim Reaper to help encourage the Game Created Regions to share their RP best practice and resources and to grow the RP communities across them.  I expect to see some exciting stuff come from this shared resource, so watch this space.

Finally, it would be immensely unfair not to mention the sudden riot of RP activity on our own RMB, which has seen nations like the Queendom of Auphelia and the Empire of Montron (and several more besides) face off against alien Tripod invasion, expansionist empires in Southeast Asia, and most recently, geopolitical organisations and treaties.  It has been difficult to follow, but there’s no denying the passion behind the players wanting to put their nations out there and have some fun, which is, after all, why most of us are RPing in the first place.  Hopefully, such activity on the RMB will result in a few more RPers in Treasure Island, increasing the diversity of nations and giving us exciting new events to take part in.
