THE SECURITY COUNCIL:

BELIEVING that the largest of the world's five feeders, the North Pacific (TNP), is a shining example to the world, especially in the art of combining freedom with security;

NOTING that, after the various coups d'état it suffered in its early years – inflicted by the likes of Great Bight, Pixiedance, The Crimson Order, Shoeless Joe and Durkadurkiranistan I & II (many of which are cited by past Security Council resolutions*) – TNP have endeavored after each liberation to recover and prevent future coups in a manner consistent with its democratic heritage, such as:
The creation of a Bill of Rights which recognises national sovereignty;
A regional constitution, which has changed over the years but which has consistently ensured that TNP remains a free, democratic and open region;
Upholding the rule of law and the supremacy of the legislature;
Establishing a Security Council of trusted and influential residents (responsible to TNP and its constitution) which oversee the region's security and respond to threats as they arise;
A contemporary endorsement trading scheme which encourages (rather than discourages) endorsement trading between WA nations; ultimately aiding in TNP's retention of newcomers and its overall regional security, in addition to the average nation in TNP amassing 16 endorsements;

REALISING that TNP's delegate endorsement counts are double that of regular contemporary counts for feeders, currently standing at over 1,250 (one catalyst of which may have been a mass campaign to endorse then-delegate HMS Unicorn at the end of 2014; momentum which once saw an 85% delegate endorsement rate amongst TNP's WA nations, as well as a rise in endorsements from 490 to over 600);

NOTICING that TNP is now home to many Commended nations (or puppets thereof), including: Astarial, Flemingovia, McMasterdonia, Renaissancistic People, Eluvatar, [nation=short]Mousebumples[/nation], Evil Wolf, and Sanctaria;

OBSERVING that TNP is unusual in having a voluntary, official regional religion: Flemingovianism, which requires its observants to worship the nation of Flemingovia as a god;

PRAISING TNP's efforts to keep its resident nations up to date with regional events, through the many dispatches (including regional census results and WA vote recommendations) put out by The Northern Light, and formerly by the North Pacific Wire; and

REMEMBERING how the North Pacific Army (NPA) have helped their Feeder and Sinker allies in times of crisis:
April 2015: During the occupation of Lazarus by the New Lazarene Order (backed by the Pacific), the NPA provided material and tactical support for the Lazarene Underground State;
Summer 2013: TNP opposed the rogue delegacy of the Dourian Embassy in Osiris, and the subsequent Gatesville occupation; and
April 2013: The NPA supplied key military aid to its allies, the Coalition of the South Pacific, in its fight against the South Pacific People's Republic (SPPR). Thus, the Security Council:

HEREBY COMMENDS the North Pacific.

Let's go through this piece by piece.

So far so good.

Shining example of .... "combining freedom with security". Security in which sense, and how so?

NOTING that, after the various coups d'état it suffered in its early years – inflicted by the likes of Great Bight, Pixiedance, The Crimson Order, Shoeless Joe and Durkadurkiranistan I & II (many of which are cited by past Security Council resolutions*) – TNP have endeavored after each liberation to recover and prevent future coups in a manner consistent with its democratic heritage, such as:

The creation of a Bill of Rights which recognises national sovereignty;

Like every other big democratic region.

A regional constitution, which has changed over the years but which has consistently ensured that TNP remains a free, democratic and open region;

Like every other big democratic region. Hell, TNP isn't even the oldest extant democracy - we are.

Upholding the rule of law and the supremacy of the legislature;

Like every other big democratic region.

Establishing a Security Council of trusted and influential residents (responsible to TNP and its constitution) which oversee the region's security and respond to threats as they arise;

Like every other big democratic region (even if our version of it is currently flawed).

A contemporary endorsement trading scheme which encourages (rather than discourages) endorsement trading between WA nations; ultimately aiding in TNP's retention of newcomers and its overall regional security, in addition to the average nation in TNP amassing 16 endorsements;

First, I maintain it's not necessarily the stopgap measure to ensure security. Second, how does this help with retention!?

REALISING that TNP's delegate endorsement counts are double that of regular contemporary counts for feeders, currently standing at over 1,250 (one catalyst of which may have been a mass campaign to endorse then-delegate HMS Unicorn at the end of 2014; momentum which once saw an 85% delegate endorsement rate amongst TNP's WA nations, as well as a rise in endorsements from 490 to over 600);

Okay, I'll grant that this is impressive.

NOTICING that TNP is now home to many Commended nations (or puppets thereof), including: Astarial, Flemingovia, McMasterdonia, Renaissancistic People, Eluvatar, [nation=short]Mousebumples[/nation], Evil Wolf, and Sanctaria;

So? Other regions have commended peeps too. We have Glen-Rhodes, and at least Elu and EW have in the past been TSP citizens as well.

OBSERVING that TNP is unusual in having a voluntary, official regional religion: Flemingovianism, which requires its observants to worship the nation of Flemingovia as a god;

An inconsequential cultural quirk has no place in a commendation. Maybe TSP should get commended for its lampshades?

PRAISING TNP's efforts to keep its resident nations up to date with regional events, through the many dispatches (including regional census results and WA vote recommendations) put out by The Northern Light, and formerly by the North Pacific Wire; and

Granted that TNP does this better than many, but to say that it's extraordinary is also overselling it.

REMEMBERING how the North Pacific Army (NPA) have helped their Feeder and Sinker allies in times of crisis:

Yeah. That's kinda what GCR militaries do. SPSF does that too. I believe in at least 2 of those instances, TNP was allied with that region anyway, so they were bound by treaty to do it?

Thus, the Security Council:

HEREBY COMMENDS the North Pacific.

So to summarize, we should commend TNP because:

• It's a big democratic region that does the things a big democratic region needs to do
  
• They have a system wherein they have lots of endorsements
  
• They're not dead and have cultural stuff going on

I voted "Abstain" in this poll due to my biased history with TNP (I don't like them, they don't like me, etc).

The resolution isn't great, and the "author" wrote very little of it. He posted an even worse draft to the NS Security Council forum, Unibot completely rewrote it, and Unibot's rewritten proposal was submitted without Unibot being credited. It bugs me that the badge hunting "author" would get a badge for someone else's work if this passed. Nonetheless, given that TNP is an ally of TSP, even though they don't seem to care if their allies vote against it (Europeia and Balder are both against), I think it would be appropriate for the Delegate to abstain from voting rather than voting against.

Isn't it also standard practice for these polls to show who is voting for which option? Could that be corrected?

TNP deserves a commendation, but not this commendation - they deserve a better one.

However, I have abstained as TNP is a TSP ally and we should follow their lead.

I'm against this. The issues I have with it go beyond who wrote it (though, it doesn't help the cause). It's more about the lack of ligidimate reasoning behind this resolution.
