Top Story: Airforce Upgrade Takes Flight

Eagle-eyed aviation enthusiasts had their gaze fixed firmly on the heavens over Ciria today as the first of a new batch of twelve Sedunnic-built jet fighters took to the skies.  At 1.30pm exactly, a VOT 14 Hotvemm fighter bearing the insignia of the recently re-established Isyemumarconin Erinead, flew over the centre of Ciria as Sityaro Ratyarid Terakho Qassa-Khardo formally announced the purchase of the Sedunnic jets.

The move comes as a direct follow-up to the Vamarconin Erinead bill, passed last month, which formally allowed the rebuilding of the Erinoran armed forces after nearly fifty years of legal restrictions and sanctions.  Erinor has only had a Self Defence Force since the end of the Syarkho Qenarid dictatorship in 1970, but the ambitious bill put forward by the current Roalwim Tavalad government allows spending to boosted to bring the Erinoran military closer in line with friendly nations from across Pacifca, something Ura’sia Yena Yamera-Hyudo says is needed if Erinor wants to become an influential nation in international affairs.

The purchase of the VOT 14s can be traced even further back, however, to a meeting between the Ura’sia and Sedunnic King Vimmru II in November.  Along with an important trade agreement and a promise to become involved in the Transsunneria once the new bill was passed, Ms. Yamera Hyudo witnessed a demonstration of the new fighters and is believed to have made a preliminary deal towards their acquisition, a sign that, contrary to some of the complaints of the opposition, she seems to be looking several steps ahead in her plans for expanding Erinoran influence and strengthening ties with foreign powers.

The Sityaro Ratyarin seemed uninterested in answering questions about the larger  RT narrative, however, and, instead, was revelling in the spectacle as much as the crowd.

“Seeing her fly over like that,” he said later, before jetting off to Resentine to attend the annual JKOM  military training event, “how could it not make you proud to be Erinoran?”   Erinor has agreed to be a participant nation at JKOM, even as foreign nations are granted this opportunity for the first time.  Along with sleek new shadows over the Cirian skyline, it seems like the new Erinoran military is already off to a flying start.

Change of Judicial authority

published by the Imperial Tribune, Oured, Frost Empire

In a stunning turn of events, the Frost Armed Forces have turned the cadets who participated in the Reizen incident over to a civilian court. Transparency activists and Colonial Frosts cheered the garrison commander Lt. Gen. Gensai’s decision to transfer the cadets instead of seek a military tribunal. When asked about the General’s decision to hand the cadets over to the 11th circuit court in Cinigrad, Frost Empire, President Kensei and several members of the parliament expressed their concerns fearing the potential use of the courts as a podium to express radical ideas that may incite violence against protected minorities as well as contradict the Emperor’s wisdom. Transparency activist Garas Shoza countered the president’s sentiments saying, “The cadets deserve due process from a jury of their peers, but the Military Tribunals tend to be highly secretive and we fear that justice may not be served when it is the Military’s duty to punish the cadets.”

General Gensai also commented that, “the Reizen military tribunal ought to recuse itself from any trial involving the cadets due to personal conflicts of interests. Furthermore, due to the zealous crackdown by the Imperial Sword, it is difficult to expect a fair trial for these cadets in any Imperial Military institution.” The general was also reported to dismiss the local 13th circuit as corrupt and an open platform for extremists, and justified his response to sending the cadets into the home islands by claiming that the Emperor’s gaze will increase the fairness of the trial.

Acting Governor General, Yamamoto Enraiji, released a statement distancing himself from General Gensai’s decision. Governor General Enraiji understood the desire to ensure a fair trial for the accused, but he was concerned that civilian courts may not be the best place considering the chance of being portrayed as misguided martyrs furthering colonial tensions. However, the governor also said that he will not intervene as his concerns, while valid, were not deemed sufficient enough to prevent the transfer of court authority by independent legal advisors.

Following the General’s decision, journalists and defense lawyers were granted access to meet with the accused following an agreement not to inundate them with questions regarding their beliefs and motives for joining the EFA. Cadet Hikari Nokage was gracious enough to answer some of the Tribune’s question’s regarding their treatment, and hope for the trials. “I understand that you do not have the clearance to ask why we did what we did, but I do hope that the people of Frost will understand that our actions weren’t for the sake of evil on the day of the trial. The guards have treated us well under Imperial Edict 3919 that ensures that we are not beaten, tortured, or subjected to any cruel or unusual punishments prior to trial.” Their defense lawyer, Tasuke Mirai also said, “the other cadets appreciate and are grateful that they have been given a fair trial at the home islands to plead their case. It is my hope that we can come to a negotiated settlement that benefits my clients, or that the jury will listen with open ears.”

Clemen KJ Heir Murdered

Mar "Junior" Ponskallu, son to Tavtid Ponskallu and heir to the family-owned container ship operator Clemen KJ, was found dead outside his home in Ullenst last week. The Police has been short on details about the findings with respect to Mar's relatives, but the preliminary investigation has concluded that he was murdered.

- According to relatives, he was on his way to a conference abroad, but he only made it to his car. His head was found in such a position that an accident or suicide is very unlikely, says the Police's spokesperson Andrallienn. The Police do not yet wish to comment further on the case. Mar did not have any known enemies.

Mar had a bachelor business management from the Southern Grovne University with top marks, but life since was characterised by controversy. He was discharged from the military conscription service without completing it, and as board member, Mar was involved in several controversies involving arranging pompous parties for shareholders. He was also a generous donor to and founder of the International Friends of Transsunieria Foundation, a charity fund.

Clemen KJ was founded in 1883 by Traff Vasjunnienn, a famous businessman of that time, and has since grown to be one of the world's largest shipping and transportation companies. Mar's cousin, Kyvv Ponskallu, will likely inherit the company instead.

The Official Out-of-Character Column

RP is back, baby!

March has seen the return of Resentine as a major player in the region, the beginnings of several important joint events and even the RMB had been talking about the importance of RP.  Which raises the question of what the future of RP should be in the South Pacific.  Should we be doing more to encourage RPing of all kinds, or should we be doubling down on our canon RP and putting more effort into ensuring it is of the highest quality and offers the best experience to those who partake of it?  Can we do both?  Can the TSP RP communities (as they now are) be both diverse and specialised?  Can we have our cake (or pie) and eat it too?

There are lots of things going on that could help us to answer those questions.  Qwert(Sedunn) and I are currently working on a survey to get a sense of where people stand in relation to our current RP offering, whilst over on the RP server created by The Grim Reaper, ideas about different kinds of RP are being shared with a view to helping all RPers create better RPs.  You can visit the latter using the following URL: https://discord.gg/c6XHJG5.

The future of RP seems bright, but we want to make sure that as many people as possible are having as much fun as possible and we need you to help us do that!

I'll be starting to get back into the swing of my RP soon! I was hoping that I'd have a map plot by now... but I guess I needn't wait! 😛

I didn't. I RPed telling everyone I was going to be plot #whateveritwas for quite a while before I was actually on the map. In your case, most people remember what plot your were anyway. Smile
