Is anti-Zionism antisemitic?
#1

I'm wondering where people stand on this. There are people who argue that anti-Zionism is antisemitic whereas others argue that anti-Zionism is not antisemitic.

The majority opinion seems to mean towards saying that it is. Personally, I don't think a dislike of Israeli actions, or the situation in Israel and Palestine in general is necessarily anti-Semitic, so long as you're not singling it out over ask the other such issues in the planet, or implying that is because Israel is Jewish. Still, it's a very sensitive area and you have to be careful how you express any opinions so that you aren't misconstrued.

I asked someone whether it was antisemitic to believe that Israel should be a secular state, while also believing that that all other states should be secular. This person would say yes. Personally, I'm puzzled by this.

Well, it's complicated by the unique situation Israel is in with respect to the Jewish people. If Israel was an artificially recreated state which was the only Black or Asian nation in the world and which Black or Asian people regarded (somewhat logically) as a symbol of their race, it would be difficult to disentangle criticism from racism. Even so, I don't think the two have to be conflated.

As an evangelical Christian, albeit one of a more liberal and certainly leftwing persuasion, I'm not one to treat Israel and the Jews with special reverence, but I know plenty of people who do and observed what I once heard described as 'poor little Israel' syndrome. But again, it's so complicated. I don't think there has ever been another people group so wrongly and so widely vilified for so long, one so entangled in the religions, mythologies and ideologies of Eurasia and thus never one so controversial.

The treatment of Jews, especially within what was once Christendom, throughout history was unequivocally wrong, as are the countless conspiracy theories which have and still do fuel such anti-Semitism, but equally, the situation of the state Israel is a worrying one, and its treatment of Palestinians has been awful. The displacement of peoples which allowed the creation of the modern state of Israel is a severe and cruel act for which the West has yet to repent, and, so long as the ideas behind Zionism are protected by fears of being accused of anti-Semitism, I don't suppose it ever will.

Israel exists. It was a grave error, but it exists. I am not anti-semitic, but I am anti-Zionist on the issue that Israel should just expand and kick the Arabs out. Israel has already stolen too much land. It's time they let Palestine free, and stop stealing land by, for example, building illegal settlements on the West Bank and occupying most of it.

Palestinians who want Israel gone must also acknowledge that Israel must exist. Millions already live there, so no one can do anything about it. A two-state solution must be fulfilled. For the West and radical Zionist intentions have already fucked up the region too much, and they must be stopped before they keep stealing land. It was wrong for Israel to be established, but nothing can be done except kicking out and/or killing millions of Israeli Jews. And we can agree that doing such things is a crime against humanity. So, as sad as it is to say it due to the historical context on how Israel came to be, Palestine must be let free, but acknowledge that Israel must exist and not be murdered.

Nothing is solved by revenge. Only when we forgive the past and focus on the present can we go on a path of peace.

Watched a video on this topic literally yesterday with a guy interviewing Palestinians on what they would do should the seize back control. A very, very large number (4/5) of them said the Israelis would be kicked out.
