Resident Spotlight: Gustave Berr
#1

Interviewer: Lady Elysium
Interviewee: Gustave Berr (Kalukmangala)

Today we are interviewing one of our newer citizens. He has been seen posting around frequently and was recently appointed as Deputy Minister for Feeder & Sinker Affairs in our Foreign Affairs office.

1. How did you learn about NationStates? Why did you join?
I found out about NationStates in about 7th Grade. I had a Social Studies teacher who did a "unit" on government, and part of the class was creating a nation, joining this specific region that he ran, and then we would take care of the political stuff that he had set up during class time. It was a really interesting activity; that and Mock Trail are probably what sparked my interest in the Law/Government/Politics.

2. What made you decide to come to The South Pacific?
The South Pacific was the region I was put into when I created Kalukmangala, so I decided this would be the best place to start. Plus, I love the weather. I'm from Midwest USA, smack dab in the middle, so we get some pretty harsh winters. None of that in TSP.

3. What do you like most about being a resident of TSP?
For the most part, everyone seems to get along. There are a fair amount of active members, so that keeps things interesting. Also, its crazy. I like crazy a lot.

We definitely have a lot of that going around, for sure!

4. Do you have any interests outside of NationStates?
Outside of NS, I am a Musical Director for a community theatre. I also frequently conduct and compose(mostly for children) musicals. Mostly my interests are musical theatre, music: antiquity (Romantic Era is my favorite) to approx. 2008 +/- a few years (except most country), politics, all sports (Chicago Teams mostly), drinking with friends, house parties with theatre friends..... the normal stuff.

Definitely check out some of the TSP University threads or create your own! I'm sure you'll find lots of fellow residents/citizens also interested in music and theater. Myself included! We could probably get some really interesting conversations going.

5. What is the significance behind your nation/forum name?
My nation name was just an entirely random name I thought up on the spot. Gustave Berr is an homage to my favorite composer, Gustave Mahler. The last name came also at random.

6. If you were delegate for a day, what would you do?
I would want to do something executive with term limits. Maybe making it so that no one can be elected to the same position in consecutive elections, or once every two elections. That would allow for people to still hold multiple offices, or the same office multiple times... but it would also allow for other people to run for those positions the next year. Regardless of how well, or poorly the incumbent had done.

Term limits is a topic that has come up before, but I'm not sure I've ever seen your spin on it. Limiting only the same office could allow for some shake-up in the way the cabinet is made up, but still allow for enough numbers in the elections. Please propose this in the Assembly if you feel strongly about it! We'd like suggestions and ideas for how the government should work from ALL our citizens, new and decrepit.

7. What is your favorite book/movie/song (or band)/video game?
Favorite Book is either The Great Gatsby or 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Favorite Movie is too hard for me, I will choose my favorite musical which is Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim. My favorite song right now is "Africa" by Toto. Favorite Video Game..... Grand Theft Auto V or NBA 2k14.

On a personal note: Sondheim is my favorite theater composer!

8. What is your favorite dessert?
Pumpkin Pie!!!!!!!

Ssh!! Not so loud...the caekists might hear you. Pie forever!!

9. Who or what would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island? Note: you already have food, some semblance of shelter, a grass skirt and a lampshade.
I would want my girlfriend and a piano. With the Island, the provided items, her, and a piano.... that would be about perfect.

10. Anything else you’d like to add?
I am really to be getting more involved in the government here, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone better. I was recently appointed as the Deputy Minister for Feeder & Sinker Affairs, and I look forward to representing TSP, and doing work on behalf of all of us citizens. I would also like to thank you, LadyElysium, for choosing me for the Resident Spotlight. I must admit, it's a great way to make a guy feel welcome.

Thank you Gustave!! It was a pleasure getting to know more about you and helping to welcome you to TSP. Thanks for answering the questions. Please give a shout if you ever have any for us. And definitely speak up if you have any ideas for how to make the region better. And anyone reading this....strike up a conversation with Gustave Berr if anything here piques your interest!

Tune in next week for another delightful spotlight interview!

I'm still a Heisenberg fan, even if he ended up being a dispecable character.
