Top Story: Peonic Military Parade Reaffirms International Power in The South Pacific

On August 3rd, The Peocracy held a massive military parade to commemorate Sunrise Day — marking the day Pirate King Gao Feng founded the People’s Revolutionary Corsairs in the 1720’s, which would evolve into the Peonic Armed Forces — for the third time in history, in celebration of the PAF’s 297th anniversary, The Peony declared the entire week-long festival free.

Although the Peocracy has conducted multiple military parades for various occasions, this parade was undoubtedly an unprecedented one, reaffirming the Peocracy’s prominence in the region and the international world.

During the parade, The Peony and members of the Royal Palace were driven past ranks of troops, marching across the streets of Lian.

The parade became an incredible show of force against the Peony’s allies, marked with increased military expenditure and the revitalization of the nation’s defense forces, including cooperation brokered with FuYuan, Zhanghai and the Macintosh Islands, as well as the nation’s membership in the Knightisian alliance.

The military parade also acted as a show of pressure towards the international settlement of XinYue, notably due to the popularity of foreigners not respecting the laws and cultures of the land.

While this may be a show of force, the Peony expressed that such military might should only be used in defense, and any act of bullying should be scrutinized.

“It is in our best interests, that The Peocracy not stand for oppression, nor be the oppressor,” the Peony said in her address.

The military parade featured military groups from all over the country: the navy, the special forces, the air force, the home army, the infantry, and the famous “Jade Rabbits”, the Peocracy’s finest military health division. The military parade also featured the corsairs of the Peonic Cooperation as well as the cosmonauts.

The Peonic state has long been unconcerned with military and international affairs that do not directly affect it. As such, military engagements across the continent have not echoed particularly loudly in the Royal chambers. Wiith Peonic interests now reaching to further parts of the world, the Peony has deemed it imperative that they mustn’t ignore the Peocracy’s military size much longer.

Experts note that while the military parade goes on, it is heavily unlikely that The Peony would warm to discussing about region security, and other topics that would not interest the state’s beliefs.

“One could say that such beliefs are dangerous, that the region is filled with states that constantly flaunt their military superiority and as history has shown, war is always imminent in this continent. The Peony knows her priorities, however, and as such, the current events outside the state are not of our concern at this present moment in time.” Said Athalia Jiafang, Professor of International Relations in the University of Lián.

What makes the Gianlucian elections and campaigning important

by Lisa Tamsen
On the 1st August 2017 the race for power began again. After four years of a coalition between Social Liberals and Social Democrats, all parties have begun campaigning for the upcoming election on the 10th September, which will define what the new parliament will look like and who GI-Land’s next chancellor will be.
But it’s not only a decision about a new parliament or a new chancellor.  No, it’s also a decision about how content the citizens are with Gianluca IV, who himself is supporting the Social Liberals.  They can’t afford to lose as substantial a number of votes as in 2013. That would be considered a great defeat for the 18 year old head of state.

It’s also a decision on the new voting system, which political scientists from all over Pacifica have helped to create. PMMP, which is kind of a mix out of MMP and STV, demands much more campaigning, because only the best can get into the Königspalast.

But what if it seems too unfair in the end? The current governing parties, the SLP and SDP especially asked to pass this new system and if it fails, it is clear that there’ll be no nice-looking polls for both parties in October.

It’s also a decision about young and old.

We’ve got the old left parties, namely the SLP and SDP, the young ones, namely the  Lefts, Greens and Pirates; the old right parties, namely the FDP and AVP, and the KPHA, a newcomer on the middle-right only consisting of members of the House of Atlantis and those of their former staff who wanted to engage themselves politically.

For the younger the parties, the more they want change the more coalition talks seem impossible, or so it seems to the average Gianlucian. Some people might be even afraid about this, because normally parties would state things like “We can’t imagine forming a coalition with …” or “We really do think, we could get along well with …”, but this hasn’t happened so far this election.

In the next few weeks, appointments will be made, statements will be spoken and they will all get into the voter’s mind, when looking at their ballot sheets.

The voters will give us the final answers to all these questions and those answers will be determined  by the actions taken by the chancellery candidates and their teams over the next few weeks.

This is why the Gianlucian elections at the beginning of September and the campaignins are so important and we haven’t even taken into account how foreign affairs could develop under a new chancellor, should the SLP fail horribly.

It should be clear enough why every vote counts.

Anarchist MP enters Valkyrian National Assembly chamber naked
By Allie Vega, KTN correspondent

Stockholm, Qvait (KTN) — Independent MP Elias Weaver has caused controversy on the floor of the National Assembly after entering the chamber in his birthday suit. Complying with the guidelines of the Broadcasting Standards Act, KTN will not be publishing nude photos of Mr. Weaver. The independent MP, who is a self-described anarchist, entered the chamber naked to make a point about the inequities of indecent exposure laws in Valkyria. Mr. Weaver argues that, since there are beaches that allow public nudity, it is only fair that public nudity is legal everywhere.

With right-wing MPs looking away in visible disgust, Mr. Weaver gave his speech. Nicole Chancellor, the Leader of the Opposition, stood and asked Speaker Suzanne Phelps whether Mr. Weaver was in violation of the law. Speaker Phelps responded, "[Mr. Weaver] will now be removed by the Sergeant-at-Arms due to his violation of the parliamentary dress code." Without resisting, the independent MP left the floor of the National Assembly, with a towel being rushed in by a Royal Guardsman. After the public display, Mr. Weaver was cited for indecent exposure and fined 300 Pacific dollars.
