The Ministry of Regional Affairs is looking to fill an urgent vacancy.

It has come to our attention that there is a high probability of an imminent Necrotic event, likely to affect not just the South Pacific, but the entirety of NationStates. As such, the Ministry urgently requires an able hand to work with the cabinet and particularly the Minister of Regional Affairs to coordinate the regional response to this event.

The successful candidate will be:

• Familiar with Necrotic events in years past, including the mechanics and strategies for survival, as well as suitable regional communications;
  
• Imaginative, with a good command of the English language, including how best to evoke a necessary response from the masses when lives are on the line;
  
• Available to have a considerable online presence over Halloween and the predicted 36-hour event;
  
• Happy to take the lead during the event itself;
  
• Cool under (considerable) pressure;

What an ironic thread for gravedigging, but I'll answer the question anyway.

Necrotic comes from the Greek nekros, meaning corpse and in the biological sciences usually refers to dead tissue in a living organism (caused by disease, frostbite, etc.) In the above announcement, it was a euphemism for zombie and thus the 'Necrotic Events' referred to were, in fact, just z-day. The whole thing was trying to stay in character, however, befitting the attempted RP-style I tried to use for Z-day 2017.

I'd say, more of a coincidental thread. Ironic means "happening in the opposite way to what is expected, and typically causing wry amusement because of this" - but coincidental means "resulting from a coincidence; done or happening by chance". It is a very common error though.

And all of this in itself is ironic!
