[Time Capsule Telegrams] Thanks, I sure did!
#1

Former Delegate (among other offices) and incumbent Permanent Justice Kringalia talks about the day when he wrote his message to the future and some else about his life thus far, shares his perspective on his ongoing candidacy for a third term as Delegate of the South Pacific, muses on the future of the region, and leaves some words of guidance for whoever leads the region in 2017.

Quite a long message, isn't it?

Hello Future World!

I've spent the past month trying to get something written, but it was really difficult. How can you really address a future? How can you even imagine what the future will look like? I guess the best way to start is by saying at the beginning.

Hi, I'm Kringalia. Currently I am the Minister of Regional Affairs of the South Pacific, so basically the guy who had the idea to have this time capsule, and who is due to open it in 2017. I am also currently running for a third non-consecutive term as Delegate. I was originally going to try another term as Minister, but Feirmont decided not to run for reelection and then some suggested that I should go for the delegacy. I am running on a platform to focus on culture and working together to make the region more fun and engaging. I really hope to win, because I feel I have the right set of skills that the region needs, and I want to try having a successful term. I think my previous two terms were pretty good, but there were some tensions and mistakes made with our foreign affairs, and I did leave behind the latent issue of our military alignments. This time I want to leave behind a legacy of openness with citizens and residents alike, and a greater focus on culture, which is the region's strength nowadays.

I could go on about this and some other things I have in my mind, but I want to keep this upbeat, and rating wouldn't help. Instead, let's talk about what I've done today, because something big has happened. I just got my US tourist visa renewed! I actually just came back from the embassy, where I spent a bit less than two hours waiting to get my fingerprints scanned and to have my interview with a consular officer. It really was mostly waiting, because the scanning took less than a minute, and the interview took less than five. The consular officer asked me if I already had a visa and what I studied, and then asked if I spoke English. I obviously do, so we talked a bit about my study abroad experience. Earlier this year I took a semester in Niagara University, so he was asking where exactly it was. I explained it was near the border with Canada, and then then told me my visa application had been approved. Yay!
I'm going to Turkey this December, but either on January or March I'll going to NYC with my parents. We always go before classes start. We just love the city. I mean, who wouldn't? It has so much to do, and it can be so easily done. I really like going to the United States, and especially to New York City. I've been there...what, 11 times already? This year alone I've been there 3 times, but that was because of my semester in Niagara. The first time this year was on my way to NU. The second time was during Spring Break with my roommate, we spent three days there, did lots of things, and even went to a Maroon 5 concert! So awesome. The third time was on my way back form NU.

Anyway, time for hopes and predictions! I have no idea whether I'll even be playing NationStates by 2017. I hope I will, but there really is no way of knowing. Regardless, I have set an alarm for 2017, so I'll make sure to revive this nation when the time comes, even if I'm not playing anymore. On that note, how do I hope the South Pacific will be like in 2017? I really hope we will be well known for our cultural focus and our roleplaying. There is a lot of potential in that area, and we should make it our big aim to continue promoting it. I also hope we will stop being so toxic with our regional government and accept that not everything needs to be a big fight against the devil. It's ok to take a deep breath and step back. QuietDad, for the love of god, stop being so damn petty. I made a private channel, so? There is no one person whose removal will make TSP "great" again. In part because the South Pacific is already great. Be honest about it, because the only way to keep the region great is to be positive and act in good faith. There is no award for who's more apocalyptic in his or her predictions. I also hope the new generation of Feirmont and Scylla will have had their chance at running the region and leaving their mark in history. They are good, and will make the region even better.

To whoever is leading us in 2017, never forget the ones who worked in the past for this region, but don't feel tied by what they did. Always work for the good of citizens and residents, but don't necessarily do something because "the community" wants it. Do stuff because you honestly believe they will be good, but never impose your ideas on others. Talk, negotiate, make your case in a civil manner. It is entirely possible to have a peaceful and positive community, but we can only do that if we are all agents of change. Please, be that agent of change.

I don't know about others, but I am pretty optimistic about the South Pacific in 2017. How do I know? Well, I don't. But I sure intend to stick around and find out. So, to all of you, and to my 23-year-old self, it's good to see you! I see you've aged well, and are having a pretty good life. Now, have an even better one!

My best,

Kringalia
