Roavin's Election Graphs & Coverage - February 2018 Cabinet Elections
#1

As is tradition!

These graphs represent, for each election, the progress of each elected office based on public votes cast. The X axis represents the cast public ballots, while the Y axis represents the number of votes received in the final round of elimination (meaning that there is a supermajority). Ties, while possible, are not resolved but just shown as such.

I will include some analysis for each, with my best attempt at being unbiased.

Prime Minister: This is a close race near the beginning, with Farengeto barely in the lead by one. The last face-off between these two candidates was the June 2017 elections, with Roavin beating Farengeto with a comfortable but not huge margin. With criticism of Roavin's leadership of the Cabinet surfacing during the campaign, this could be Farengeto's chance to breeze past the incumbent.

Minister of Foreign Affairs: Tim takes a clear lead in the beginning. Surprising is the number of voters placing RON above Sandaoguo, a controversial but experienced former Foreign Affairs minister. Sandaoguo had been inadvertently accused ot directly causing the straining of relations with Balder and Osiris, and despite Tim later apologizing for the unintended implication, that certainly left a stain on Sandaoguo's chances.

Minister of Military Affairs: As expected, Somyrion takes the clear lead. The Serres Republic had declared for the position bbut neither posted a campaign nor been otherwise visible since then.

Minister of Regional Affairs: Escade takes a clear, but not unanimous, early lead over Drall. A controversial vote comes from Delegate and former Minister Seraph, who listed neither candidate and instead voted only to reopen nominations.

Prime Minister: Despite an early lead by Farengeto, incumbent Roavin has now caught up to lead 9-5. Despite this, the race is likely to be too close to call until the end, depending on the amount of private votes that can be expected.

Minister of Foreign Affairs: Tim continues to lead strongly, with only one first-preference vote for Sandaoguo (his own) and several voters preferring RON over Sandaoguo. Voters generally cited Sandaoguo's controversial reputation as well as the desire to more openly stand against the so-called Independent Manifesto to explain the large gap between the two candidates despite having mostly similar views and goals.

Minister of Military Affairs: Somyrion continues their unanimous leap towards a win, with only a single abstention vote marring what would otherwise be a perfectly straight line.

Minister of Regional Affairs: Despite the clear lead by Escade, the results in this race are certainly controversial. Next to Seraph, two other voters have now publicly declared a first preference for RON over either of the two candidates. Voters feel that Escade has been too negative and dirty in her campaign answers and willfully ignorant to a fault of current established practices in the ministry. Drall is generally not trusted by voters to have the extended access that a Cabinet position grants, and is furthermore hampered by the ostensibly reactionary nature of his campaign.
