Ruling on the Continuity of the Cabinet
HCAF1801

On 25 November 2017, a report from The Serious Paper indicated that Prime Minister Roavin was not in possession of a lampshade. While the Prime Minister insisted shortly after that he did own a lampshade, there was never a definite confirmation that this claim was indeed true. In turn, over the past few months the Court has received messages from various anonymous sources that the Prime Minister not only does not own a lampshade, but also holds a high position within the lampshade-smuggling organisation known as The Lampsmugglers.

While these reports were undeoubtedly disturbing, the Court had no verifiable evidence of membership until this morning, when it received, from an anonymous source, security footage that shows the Prime Minister discussing shipments of lampshades departing the Interregional Seaport. Upon further investigation, the Court has discovered that these shipments are destined for the Pacific and the East Pacific, two regions with which treaties have recently been signed, following enthusiastic support from the Cabinet.

This morning the Court also received information that confirms the membership of all members of the Cabinet in The Lampsmugglers, and further confirms that the treaties with the Pacific and the East Pacific were signed in an effort to obtain preferential treatment for their smuggling operations. These actions signal a deliberate criminal intent and constitute a clear violation of the Lampshade Protection Act and the Honest Government Act, being evident attempts to profit by manipulating the Assembly.

In view of the above, and considering the duty of the Court to uphold the Charter and all subsidiary and inferior laws, the Cabinet is recalled and permanently barred from holding public office, and elections for its successor are immediately called. Until such a time as a Cabinet is elected, the Coalition shall be governed by a Continuity Council consisting of Delegate Seraph, Chair of the Assembly Nakari and Chief Justice Kringle.

It is so ordered.

Evidence of the security footage of the Prime Minister discussing illegal actions can be found here.
