You mean move everything over to the private voting system we have in place and abolish public voting?

Yup

I've always felt it important that people be accountable for how they vote, with it a matter of public record.

Re: Voting Record
I also think vote should be public record after closure of the vote.

It already is, i believe, as part of the list kept to ensure the update of legislators.

Re: Poll / campaigning
Where i differ (from everyone else apparently!) Is that campaigning shouldnt take place during a voting period.

My interpretation of the clauses above is that voting takes place after campaigning.

It occurs to me that the campaigner may, during the process of the vote, change tracks and to curry favour. Particularly where voting is close. Which would not necessarily be in keeping with the ideologies voted on before.

Re voting methods

I am ambivalent. I feel the process works at present.

I agree actually. I've been in student government (student senate) and we never allowed campaigning during or even a few days before the vote.

I think that campaigning during the voting period is a good thing, because it negates the effects of apathy: While campaigning for bzern, i found several people that were unaware that an election was even going on. Also the effects of openly campaigning doesn't change the fact that more than likely most people know who they're gonna vote for already. Allowing campaigning during the voting period allows for voter turnout to grow.

Never meant for it to be private forever. I have no issues of the votes being made public AFTER the vote closes. Just that the "I see you voted for X. Can you vote for me  (or Y)" during an election gets boring.

I’d rather not have all my votes public. No interests but selfish interests are fulfilled by forcing people to reveal how they vote.
