FAREWELL ADDRESS

20 June 2020

Friends and colleagues,

Today marks the last day of my term and I have come to realize I would be remiss if I did not express my gratitude to a number of those I have served alongside. The staff who has served with me have done a commendable job and to all of them, I am indebted to all of them for without their support, none of what has been accomplished would have occurred. The Advisors who have kept me in check had an impossible task and have performed it without fail. The Cabinet Ministers I have served with these last eight months have all performed their duties in a commendable way and have ensured the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was acting to serve all of TSP as a part of a unified Cabinet. Finally, the members of the Assembly, all of whom have given me their faith and trust and for that, I will be forever humbled. Thank you all.

Faithfully yours,

Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Omega

A NEW TERM AND A NEW EMBASSY

25 June 2020

South Pacificans and foreign dignitaries,

I first want to thank Omega for leading the South Pacific's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the past eight months. During his time as Minister, he oversaw the region's rapprochement with Osiris and the New Pacific Order, negotiated a treaty with 10000 Islands, and co-organized Pacific-Con. I would be remiss if I did not recognize Omega's accomplishments in my first open letter, so thank you, Omega, for your bold leadership in advancing the interests of the South Pacific.

In my first act as Minister of Foreign Affairs, I am pleased to announce the establishment of embassies between the South Pacific and The Order of the Grey Wardens, an organization that has shown their unyielding commitment to defender values and longtime military cooperation with the South Pacific Special Forces. It is for these reasons that the South Pacific made this offer to the Grey Wardens.

Between 22 and 25 June, the South Pacific voted overwhelmingly in favor of establishing this embassy, confirming the offer made to the Grey Wardens. I have confidence that our relationship will endure and continue for years to come. So, cheers to a new embassy and a thriving relationship between the South Pacific and The Order of the Grey Wardens.

Faithfully yours,

Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Jay Coop

THE GALAPAGOS ACCORDS

30 June 2020

Friends and neighbors,

The East Pacific and the South Pacific are proud to announce the ratification of the Galapagos Accords, an exemplification of the friendship between our two regions. This treaty reinforces the provisions that exist between our regions in the January Accords. It is the shared desire of our respective regions to continue this friendship for years to come and strive to assist each other in times of need.

We would also like to thank Aivintis and Omega, whom each played a pivotal role in the negotiation of this treaty in their respective positions as Minister of Foreign Affairs of The East Pacific and the South Pacific in the previous term. It was during their leadership that most of the negotiations occurred and they deserve their due credit for the passage of the Galapagos Accords.

So, applause to them and a new treaty between The East Pacific and the South Pacific.

Faithfully yours,

Chief Minister of Foreign Affairs of The East Pacific,
Virgolia

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the South Pacific,
Jay Coop

NEW MINISTRY APPOINTMENTS

10 July 2020

Friends and neighbors,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of ambassadors to Caer Sidi, the Free Nations Region, Greater Díenstad, the International Democratic Union, and South Pacific. The purpose of these appointments is threefold: the South Pacific shall connect and engage with vibrant, growing regions, strengthen our relationship with defender-aligned regions, and renew our commitment to regions with which the South Pacific already shares in-game embassies.

I intend to appoint additional ambassadors to other regions throughout my term, and the appointments I have just made are a step in that direction. These appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs help in the objective of building the future of the South Pacific. These User-Created Regions and several others represent a part of this future.

To oversee this ministerial expansion, I have appointed Rabbitz to serve as the Ministry's fifth Secretary of State, who shall be the senior official to ambassadors to Caer Sidi, the Free Nations Region, Greater Díenstad, and South Pacific. Meanwhile, North Prarie shall be the Secretary of State for the ambassador to the International Democratic Union, whose portfolio is composed of all but one member region of the World Assembly Legislative League.

I also wish to recognize India and Sonindia for their recent establishment of consulates in the South Pacific. We're grateful to know that the two regions are interested in building a relationship with the South Pacific, and we hope to see these relationships develop further. I know that there's a great future in store for all of us. The future never comes to us; we must build our future right now in the present.

Faithfully yours,

Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Jay Coop

A postscript for citizens of the South Pacific:

As always, you are welcome to apply to become an ambassador in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It's an exciting endeavor that allows you to get to know the residents of another region and work with a vibrant and diverse ministerial staff. The more ambassadors we have, the greater the reach of the South Pacific, and a more promising future ahead for you and the region as a whole.

EMBASSY CLOSURE

1 July 2021

My fellow South Pacificans,

On 24 June, Thalassia announced its impending closure and did not name a legal successor to the region. As of 28 June, there is only one nation in Thalassia, the founding nation, and all natives have since moved to various regions recommended to them on Thalassia's regional Discord server.

Due to the regional closure, the South Pacific has begun the process of closing its embassy with Thalassia, with the process concluding on 5 July at 04:00 UTC. The closure will mark the end of a relationship that began on 19 April 2020.

Faithfully yours,

Jay Coop
Minister of Foreign Affairs

NEW EMBASSY

3 July 2021

My fellow South Pacificans,

The South Pacific has begun a process to open embassies with Thaecia, an up-and-coming region that we have cooperated with militarily in recent times. With these embassies, the South Pacific is hopeful to develop a closer relationship with Thaecia and explore where it takes us, both culturally and militarily.

Thaecia has put together a formidable military that the South Pacific Special Forces have been honored to cooperate with, and we hope to continue this relationship with more direction and clearer vision. With time, Thaecia and the South Pacific could become reliable partners and allies, so we have taken a step towards building a closer relationship.

Faithfully yours,

Jay Coop
Minister of Foreign Affairs

NEW EMBASSIES

5 July 2021

My fellow South Pacificans,

The South Pacific has begun the process of opening two additional embassies, one with the Philippines and another with the Social Liberal Union.

By establishing embassies with the Philippines, the South Pacific hopes to build a close and strong relationship with a fellow member of the Partnership for Sovereignty. Any region that is a member of the PfS is a friend of the South Pacific, and that includes the Philippines.

On another front, the South Pacific shall endeavor to foster relationships in NSLeft, starting with the Social Liberal Union. For both of us, our regions embody democratic ideals and are fervent in our opposition to fascism. Over time, we hope to establish closer cultural ties between our regions.

Here's to new relationships!

Faithfully yours,

Jay Coop
Minister of Foreign Affairs

NEW EMBASSY

23 July 2021

My fellow South Pacificans:

The South Pacific has initiated the process of opening an in-game embassy with The League, a region that has proved itself to be a reliable military partner to the South Pacific and our defender allies.

With this step, we will engage in a closer relationship with The League as we move toward a more interconnected defendersphere, a top priority in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Faithfully yours,

Jay Coop
Minister of Foreign Affairs

STATEMENT ON NATIONSTATES CLOSING EMBASSIES

1 August 2021

My fellow South Pacificans and interested parties:

On Sunday, 1 August, NationStates ordered the closure of embassies between their region and the South Pacific based on the latter's defender tag, calling it "contrary to [their] Ideal". The South Pacific finds their reasoning illogical.

The South Pacific adopted the defender tag on 17 July 2019 upon passing the Resolution on Adopting Defending Military Principles, a full two years before NationStates' decision to close embassies. Where was NationStates in the two years the South Pacific possessed the defender tag, and why did NationStates wait this long to close embassies based on this rationale?

The decision is also hypocritical because NationStates claims in their World Factbook Entry that their region is "Friends With All; Aligned With None". However, their closing of embassies shows that not to be true. Furthermore, at least one region NationStates shares embassies with possesses an invader tag, yet there was no decision to close that embassy. Why is that?

As far as the South Pacific is concerned, NationStates' decision to close embassies is an illogical and hypocritical move on their part, and we will proceed in our foreign affairs aligned with our defender principles without compromising these values based on the whims of a supposedly neutral region.

Faithfully yours,

Jay Coop
Minister of Foreign Affairs
