Musical Theatre
#1

A few members of the community have expressed interest in Musical Theatre. Let's get a discussion going. I want to start off with a couple of questions.

1) What are some of your favorite musical theatre pieces?

Out of those, pick one that stands above the rest and discuss the following questions:

-What do you like more about this particular piece (score, songs, book, concept, ect.) in comparison to others?

-What do you think other musicals might do better than this particular piece (if anything)?

The same questions could be asked about specific composers, different eras of musical theatre, or different styles of shows (rock, classic, jukebox, ect.).

Just some ideas to get the conversation started... let the discussion begin!!

Not exactly a lively discussion.

"Also sprach Zarathustra" would have to be the one. Not sure if it counts, but the way the intro it was used in 2001: A Space Odyssey might be the best indication as to why I like it. I like this one because of the use of the drums and trumpets in the beginning. Sorry, I'm not big on description at this point.

I feel one of my favorite Musicals would have to be Fiddler on the roof and all of it's musical pieces.
However, 'Sunrise Sunset' really sticks out. It speaks of the passing seasons, and how traditions have changed in many ways and how everyone is growing old as fuck. It's really something you can't get around, aging. I don't know, it just being applied to a musical and the way it was portrayed, it makes it seem like something that lulls on forever. I still like it though.

The musical overall is astounding though, the way everything works out. It's really awful knowing all the things that ended up happening in Warsaw but at least the production covered the better times as well as the worse.

Anyone have any thoughts of their own on this play?
