The race has begun!

[Election Central] October 1

In the start of what may prove to be a decisive election, Election Commissioner Belschaft officially called the October 2018 Cabinet Elections into being, with the nominations period immediately beginning.

In an unprecedented move, the Election Commissioner announced that contrary to past elections, private ballots would not be counted. The surprising development was met with opposition by Cabinet Ministers. Prime Minister Farengeto lodged an official protest with the Electoral Commission.

‘The secret ballot has long been a critical component in defending the ability for one to vote freely,’ the Prime Minister argued, ‘and in the often divisive politics of the South Pacific this decision undermines the integrity of our elections and the democratic freedoms of our region.’

The complaint received support by the Minister of Regional Affairs, Island of Unity, who noted that ‘people should ought to have the right to cast a ballot in private and without the pressure of public knowledge.’

The Election Commissioner noted that present legislation does not mandate a private ballot. However, he was amenable to their concerns and later revised his announcement to make allowance for such ballots.

The nominations period closes on the 7th of October at 00:00 (23:00 UTC).

Sparks fly as Candidates seek to score political points

[Election Central] October 10

With under 24 hours to go until polls open, candidates across the political spectrum spent their last few hours making their pitches to their supporters and questioning the campaigns of others.

At a rally in the South Pacific island of Tawaii, Chair of the Assembly and candidate for Minister of Military Affairs, Roavin, attacked Prime Ministerial candidate Islands of Unity for all but lying to the electorate. The Chair questioned why the current Minister of Regional Affairs referred to his service as ‘just filling the remainder of Nakari's term’ when he had previously committed to an active and engaging term.

In a scathing review of Island’s campaign, Roavin highlighted a number of inconsistencies in the responses provided by the candidate to constituents’ questions, and sought to cast doubt as to the Minister’s credibility.

Island’s campaign office called these attacks ‘hostile’ and wrote that he will give ‘the benefit of the doubt and address the concerns [Roavin] brought up here, instead of assuming that … the intent of these questions [was] to delegitimize [himself] or [his] campaign.’ The candidate proceeded to provide a series of answers which was intended to demonstrate Island’s train of thought which had led up to these alleged inconsistencies.

In response to why he diverged from his earlier promise of activity, Island stated ‘[there] was a difference in what I expected the office to be like and how it is. I admit that I over estimated how fast I could get the ball rolling on the projects I wanted to come to fruition.’

The fierce discourse between the candidates underscored the importance of the position being debate. A long-time government official, Rebeltopia, observed in a statement that ‘[if] you’re looking for a cushy leadership job, TSP is not your best bet. In fact, its probably one of your worst options…’

MoMA Candidate questioned about his past service

[Election Central] October 10

In a meet and greet at a retirement home south of the Lampshade District, Minister of Military Affairs Somyrion queried the Chair of the Assembly Roavin on his platform and his most recent service to The South Pacific.

Addressing a crowd of 53 elderly Islanders and their pet llamas, the Minister provided new details on the current Cabinet’s internal discussions about Mr. Ever-Wandering Souls’ proscription. The Cabinet’s actions with respect to the Field Marshal Overseer of Terra Corps of The Black Hawks garnered controversy in the Gameplay community and caused considerable consternation within the Coalition’s diplomatic corps. Minister Somyrion accused the Chair of stalling the Cabinet on a response to amend the proscriptions amid a High Court ruling calling for further clarification.

In a remarkable attack on the candidate, the Minister accused the Chair of having acted improperly in his capacity as the Cabinet’s representative on the proscription cases and mishandling the lines of communication between the Cabinet and himself. Specifically, Minister Somyrion alleges an intentional exclusion of current Minister of Regional Affairs Islands of Unity from Cabinet discussions.

‘You went against the unity of the cabinet to specifically exclude a member you didn't like from communication,’ Minister Somyrion asserts, ‘and you took such unilateral action based on suspicions you had never shared with anyone, even when they were relevant to regional security.’

Minister Islands of Unity is running for Prime Minister and has faced criticism for a lack of consistency in his campaign from the Chair of the Assembly

Minister Somyrion questioned how the Chair planned to ‘reconcile the fact that [he had] been highly inactive in the past month with [his] current bid for a term in the cabinet?’ Notably, the Minister himself has faced similar questioning in his own campaign for Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The campaign office of Roavin has yet to issue a statement in response to these latest questions.

~ Keeping the South Pacific safe underneath our watchful eye ~
Edition 334 (10 October 2018)

EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS! ELECTROAL FRAUD IN ELECTION CENTRAL!
Number of ballot papers printed exceeds registered voters!
Is the Election Commission stuffing the ballot box?
Can we trust Belschaft with our democracy?

South Pacific Eyewitness News can exclusively reveal that one of our citizen journalists witnessed the Election Commission taking receipt of ballot papers during the dead of night. We can report that more than three times as many ballot papers were delivered as there are voters! Sources indicate that new Election Commsioner Belschaft is preparing to rig the vote. Regular readers of Eyewitness News will know that we have long warned against Belschaft and his fellow deep state conspirators (see editions 285, 288, 291, 293, 295 through 301, 303, 307 through 311, 313, 319, 322, 324 and 326 through 333), but the culture warriors, snowflakes and libtards in the Council on Regional Suppresion are more interested in oppressing hardworking, native born South Pacificans than stopping this foreign born conspiracy.

Comrade Belschaft hard at work in Election Central

Patriotic South Pacificans must ask themselves why the Council on Regional Suppresion continues to ignore the threat presented by the “reformed” criminal Belschaft. Why did the Cabinet and Assembly chose to make an indivual with such an extensive history of criminal accusations a Court Justice? Do they think we are stupid? That we’re not watching? It’s obvious to us at Eyewitness News that the Council on Regional Suppresion, Cabinet, Assembly, Court and the Delegate are all working together to steal democracy from native born South Pacificans.

Native born patriots must prepare to rise up and resist this conspiracy of communistis and foreigners, and reclaim our region!

Chair Roavin responds to questions about his conduct

[Election Central] October 10

With just hours to go before the Coalition heads to the polls, Chair Roavin gave a speech before reporters at his campaign office, strongly defending his record as a Cabinet representative to Mr. Ever-Wandering Souls’ proscription case.

Minister of Military Affairs Somyrion had previously attacked the Chair for inactivity during internal Cabinet discussions and stalling the Cabinet’s response to what pundits have characterised as a damaging foreign affairs blunder.

In late August, Prime Minister Farengeto announced that Cabinet would be enacting proscriptions previously drafted by his predecessor’s administration. The Chair was Prime Minister at that time.

The proscriptions included members of Hydra, Lone Wolves United, and Mr. Ever-Wandering Souls, the Field Marshal Overseer of Terra Corps of The Black Hawks. The proscriptions were poorly received in the Gameplay community, with Mr. Souls mounting a strong public relations campaign against The South Pacific, with significant support from other members of the community.

The High Court sought clarification from Cabinet on the proscriptions. The Chair was assigned to advise on a reissuing of the proscriptions. In his address, the Chair admitted to having failed to do so in a timely manner.

‘On not getting the proscription reissue done: Yep. That's on me. We were talking to the court in a closed session afterwards, seeking clarification, but that's been done for a while now and I could (and should) have finished this up for the Cabinet already.’

The Chair also provided details on internal discussions within the Cabinet and the lines of communication between Cabinet Ministers. Minister Somyrion accused the Chair of purposely excluding Minister of Regional Affairs Islands of Unity from Cabinet meetings held in confidential Discord channels.

‘On not inviting IoU to the group DM: We already talked this over on Discord,’ Chair Roavin said, ‘There was a credible suspicion that IoU's Cabinet bid during the special election wasn't in good faith, but rather intended to steal logs and other confidential materials for espionage purposes.’

Chair Roavin is currently contesting the election for Minister of Military Affairs. He was elected Chair of the Assembly in July. His term of 4 months is scheduled to conclude in November. Should he be elected, the Chair will be vacated and the Coalition will once again head to the polls as early as the end of October.

The voting period opens on the 11th of October at 00:00 BST (23:00 UTC 10th of October). Voting will be closed three days later on the 14th of October at 00:00 BST (23:00 UTC 13th of October).

Polling opens across The South Pacific

[Election Central] October 11

The voting period officially commenced today. At polling stations on islands across The South Pacific, queues of Islanders could be seen lining up with their pet llamas at dedicated public buildings temporarily repurposed for the occasion.

The October Cabinet Elections saw tensions flare in the last few days of the campaigning period with candidates attempting to raise concerns about others’ character and fitness for office.

Minister of Regional Affairs Islands of Unity and The Serres Republic are contesting the election to become Prime Minister. The Incumbent, Mr. Farengeto, was widely expected to re-contest his seat but in a shock announcement, said he was dropping out of the race to spend more time focusing on his mental wellbeing. The announcement was met with approval from members of the public who thanked the Prime Minister for shedding light on the often neglected issue. Former Delegate Seraph applauded the Prime Minister, observing that in his experience, ‘Opening up about these things may only help a little, but it does help.’

Candidates for positions of Minister of Regional Affairs and Minister of Military Affairs, Pencil Sharpeners and Roavin, respectively, are thought to stand strong chances of being elected given the lack of any viable competition.

Barring a surprise upset in those elections by long-time nominee RON (Re-Open-Nominations), all eyes are on the elections for Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Minister of Military Affairs Somyrion and Associate Justice Glen-Rhodes (Sandaoguo) are locked in a tight race for Minister of Foreign Affairs. Both candidates stayed clear of attacking the other and largely ran positive campaigns.

Polling stations will close in under three days, on the 14th of October at 00:00 BST (23:00 UTC 13th of October).

Islands of Unity mounts a strong showing at the polls

[Election Central] October 11

Chair Roavin and Minister Unity in the Legislators Lounge on Discord

Minister of Regional Affairs and Prime Ministerial candidate Islands of Unity has staged a comeback from early polling to run neck and neck with The Serres Republic. At the time of writing, the vote was a 6-6 tie.

This comes amid accusations by Chair Roavin who issued a stinging rebuke of the Minister’s electoral practices.

‘You don't have any record to run on, you have no experience, when you did have a position you didn't do anything with it, BUT what you did do is motivate peeps to sign up and tell those that don't know better to vote for you.(edited) How many DMs have you sent? Mind posting what you sent them?’

There is nothing illegal about private campaigning in direct messages.

The Minister responded to these charges; ‘Im not deflecting, im choosing what i foucus my energy on [sic]’.

The heated discourse between the two candidates follows an admission by Chair Roavin’s campaign that he had sought to block Minister Unity’s entry into confidential Cabinet discussion channels due to alleged security concerns.

Drama Llama strikes the High Court and polling booths

[Fudgetopia Government Centre] October 11

In a shocking attack, the Fudgetopia Government Centre and four polling booths were rocked by several explosions.

Reports are flooding in but it appears Prime Ministerial candidate and Minister of Regional Affairs Islands of Unity as well as the current Chair of the Assembly and Minister of Military Affairs candidate Roavin were injured in the separate blasts.

Chair Roavin had just come down from the steps of the High Court after submitting a surprising charge which alleged crimes of espionage on both his and Minister Unity’s part.

Minister Unity had been at the Mount Violet community center, giving a speech to his supporters gathered outside the recently opened polling station.

Both have been airlifted to Treasure Island General Hospital.

A statement was delivered to the Southern Journal newspaper by an unsuspecting courier. Allegedly written the Drama Llama Farm Collective, the statement casts blame on the two candidates for their conduct and concluded with a vow to permanently remove them from South Pacific politics.

The Collective formed in 2011 as a guerrilla unit operating in The South Pacific’s southern most tropical island and agitated for an overthrow of democratic governance and the installation of a Balderian regime. In recent years, the Collective has increased the scale of their campaign to involve attacks on prominent persons.

In September, the Drama Llama Farm Collective claimed credited for the assassinations of Minister Tim and Former Delegate Escade. The public nature of the attacks on two of The South Pacific’s most high profile politicians left the Coalition reeling.

This is a developing story.

Councillor Glen-Rhodes calls for renewed focus on security

[Legislators’ Lounge] October 11

Amid heightened tensions stemming from the election, member of the Council on Regional Security (CRS) and candidate for Minister of Foreign Affairs Glen-Rhodes lambasts the current state of affairs and calls for reform of the region’s security apparatus.

In a speech to those gathered in the Legislators Lounge, the Councillor derided the Cabinet’s recent efforts to proscribe threats to regional security.

‘We can't even agree that we should proscribe people who literally messed with our Delegate transition, and have said over and over again that they want to destroy us’, the Councillor lamented, ‘I’m not sure if there are more than 2 people who take threats to us seriously.’

The Councillor underscored a growing security challenge to the Coalition, noting that the Independent Joint Command Coalition (IJCC) was comprised of regions traditionally antagonistic towards The South Pacific, including Balder, Europeia, and The Land of Kings and Emperors, and which could seek to destabilise the Coalition.

Councillor Glen defended the need for more stringent security protocols. In the past, such efforts were watered down due to consensus among legislators that moderation was the most appropriate direction to proceed with.

‘If we lock our region down, become a closed community with strict membership requirements, and kick people out more easily, then maybe we wouldn't need those hard and cold security players. But we don't want a region like that. We want the rainbows and sunshine because it's fun, and just take our security for granted. Europeia and Balder don't care about how much we want to have fun.’

So as to meet this challenge, the Councillor advocated for a greater strategic focus and a more concerted effort to defend the Coalition and its ideals, with proposed reform as the ‘CRS needs to be allowed to protect the region, so that the PM and MoFA can focus on more fun things.’

The candidate for Minister of Foreign Affairs argued that ‘there needs to be people in government who are hard, experienced in the dirty fighting the rest of the game does, and who don't shut down when things get tough.’
