How to vote in the October 2018 Cabinet Elections
#1

Voting Instructions

As specified by the Elections Act, this election will be conducted via Instant Runoff Voting (IRV), using the Optional Preferential Voting (OPV) variant. Voters may list as many or as few candidates as they like, in order of preference, with 1. or the first placed name reading top-to-bottom, left-to-right, being their first preference. The candidate with the least number of votes will be eliminated and their votes reallocated, continuing until a candidate has an absolute majority of remaining votes.

Voters may choose to abstain, spoil their ballot, or vote to Re Open Nominations (RON). Abstentions and spoilt ballots will be discarded. Should RON receive an absolute majority of votes then the election will be restarted

In the event that no candidate achieves an absolute majority, I will determine a method to decide the election. This method will be made publicly known and explained.

After I have counted the votes and announced the results, there will be a one week period during which any and all election-related disputes must be settled.

An ideal sample ballot is shown bellow;

Minister of Example
Beth
Carl
Alex
RON
Deborah

Candidates should be listed sequentially from first preference to last preference. No specific format is mandated, so long as it is comprehensible. If your ballot is unclear it may not be counted.

An individual thread will be created for each elected position. Legislators should vote in each thread. If they wish to change their vote they should make a new post, and edit the previous post to read -VOTE WITHDRAWN-.

Voting threads will be set open automatically at 00.00 on the 11th of October, BST, and will close automatically at 00.00 on the 14th of October, BST. Voting will last for three days.

Private Voting

Should you wish to vote privately, you may do so by sending a Private Message to the Vote Collector account.

You should send a single Private Message clearly identifying the positions you are voting privately for, and listing your preferences clearly as shown above. If you vote for the same positions both publicly and privately your secret ballot will be discarded.

Private votes should be marked with the subject Cabinet Elections 2018.

If they wish to change their vote they should send a new Private Message; the most recently received Private Message will be the one counted.

Private ballots must be received in the designated voting period between 00.00 on the 11th of October, BST and 00.00 on the 14th of October, BST.
