ISLANDS AT WAR

Supreme Leader,

It is 3:14 a.m. (Pacifica Time), your glorious bottom has been hustled out of your four-poster bed by your Chief of Staff. Dazed and wigless, you descend down a flight of rather steep stairs, heading beneath your palatial residence and entering the ridiculously expensive bunker which now serves as the emergency command centre for your military.

Admiral Bong Bong Bing Bong, commander of your nation's South Pacific fleet, informs you of the precarious situation.

With the failure of the Tsunamy Accords, the entire South Pacific has descended into a state of war. The region's pariah state, Sandaoguo, had only minutes before, launched a nuclear attack against its regional rival, Belschaft, and its troops are now advancing on several fronts into neighbouring Imperialist nations, capturing key strategic strongholds throughout Violeton, Maxtopia, and Berryica.

Your military commanders suggest that this is the opportune time to establish supremacy in The South Pacific. They advise you begin (to play) Operation: Islands at War.

What is Islands at War?

IaW is a turn-based strategy game:
  • Each Player (Nation) begins with 80 squares of territory.
  • Every 12 hours, the Nation can capture 20 squares [12 hours equates to one turn]
  • If there is uncaptured territory within the space the Nation has secured, that territory automatically becomes part of the Nation.
  • At the end of the game, whichever Nation has the most squares wins.
  • An option available to every Nation is to capture Fudgetopia Government Centre (located at the centre of the map and shaded in red]. Whichever Nation possess the Centre at the end of the game, will have its territory square size multiplied by 150% for the final tally.
Sounds good! What next?

This regional game concept is in its infancy. We would need to work out roughly how many people are interested in playing (and adjust the number of squares accordingly), what's the most effective way to do this, the rules, how long the game will last, etc.

Broadly speaking though, the main elements are listed above.
