Resident Spotlight: City States Nation
#1

*** Resident Spotlight ***
KRIS KRINGLE interviews CITY STATES NATION on 30 JUNE 2014

I invited City States Nation to the Government House for a short interview. CSN is relatively new to the region, but has proven to be an eager participant in our Regional Message Board and I am sure that we will see great things from them in the future.

1. How did you learn about NationStates? What made you stick around?

I originally heard about NationStates through friends, I was suggested to it because they knew I was a fan of Civilization 5, so I gave it a shot. The issues that make you scratch your head and the discussions on the RMB always keep me coming everyday.

The issues and their impossible choices are certainly something that lures you, at least at first!

2. What made you come to the South Pacific? Or if your nation was born here, what made you stay in the region?

When I created this nation, I was automatically placed into the South Pacific, a friend of mine wanted me to join his, but he was quite inactive so I was uneasy about the decision. As of right now my dossier shows an unclickable name of his nation, so I guess I made the right choice Wink. I absolutely like the polls that are offered on the TSP page and the constant swaying of discussion topics on the RMB.

Can't go wrong with the land of lampshades! I'm glad you decided to stick around. Smile

3. What do you like the most about being a resident of the South Pacific?

Perhaps what I love most about being a resident of the TSP is that I'm a member of one of the largest regions in NationStates! If you combine that in getting in the top 5% or 10% on some of the daily leader boards, then that has to be something to be proud of, right?

4. Do you have any interests outside of NationStates?

As far in the computer world, I play various games, mostly those of the historical genre. I think it's a good thing if you combine video games with educational history, hehe. In the real world, I love to walk my dogs when it's not blazing hot, learning to play the Marimba for school (slowly, but surely!), sometimes drive into town and watch planes take off from the airport (Aviation Geek, I know), and collecting items that represent history (I've got me a Pepsi-Cola bottle that was made in the 80's from the USSR!).

Wow. Having a such a bottle must be pretty cool. The most "historical" thing I own is a 1982 Thriller LP.

5. What is the significance behind your nation name?

I think playing Civ 5 really influenced my nation's name. I've got a keen interest in the country of "Venice". With Venice, it's a city state and you can only grow by annexing other city states! It then grows in power with all these city-states working together hence the part called "Confederacy". I originally didn't plan to add the word "Nation" at the end, but someone beat me to it with just "City States".

6. If you were Delegate for a day, what would you do?

After reading question 8, I have a high sense that many people like pie, in my mandate I would pay my nation's cargo planes to airdrop cake for all with each cake saying "Cake > Pie." Wink

Loves Cake. Hates Pie. I think you'd make an awesome delegate! Happywide

7. What is your favourite book/movie/song/game?

Perhaps a favorite book of mine is "Decision Points", yea I'm getting political when I mentioned it, but it really gave me an in depth view of how decisions really affect others and how sometimes you are faced with two bad ones, also it explains why those decisions were made, but that will be as far as I go on that. My favorite movie would probably be "Mrs. Doubtfire". Song could perhaps be the March from "1941", can't go wrong with John Williams. A favorite game of mine would probably be World of Tanks.

I actually like Decision Points as well! I don't agree with Bush on many aspects, but I did enjoy reading his book, especially those first few chapters, probably up until the chapter on 9/11.

8. Cake or Pie? (there is only one right answer!)

I must go with cake! I will get a lot of flak for saying that, but I can't part with delicious Pineapple Upside Down cake!

*hugs* Welcome to the family!

9. Who or what would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island? (You already have food, some semblance of shelter, a grass skirt and a lampshade)

I would probably want some sort of comedian with me, at least that will provide me with some entertainment!

Anything else you would like to add?

I must say thanks to Kringalia for the interview, it was fun answering the questions! It's an absolute pleasure speaking on the RMB when I find interesting discussions. I also made an account on the TSP forums with the username of "GloriousCow" (I know, silly name, but I had to get somewhat creative!). And considering at the time of the interview, the FIFA World Cup going on, and it seems the USA is practically out of the competition, so I must find someone to root for: GO GERMANY!!!

Wait! We are supporting the Netherlands in this region! :surprised:

Thanks again to City States Nation for this wonderful interview! This is a new issue of our fantastic Resident Spotlight segment. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we both did!
