Re-envisioning the University of TSP
#11

Long list of clarifications mainly about regulations:
Also, would just anyone be able to hold classes there about whatever they want to teach, or would they have to be pre-approved? Would the theoretical pre-approval be for just anyone who then just has to get the lesson in question approved before posting it? Or would it be more of a thing where you would be pre-approved as a professor and then be able to teach whatever rather than it just being anyone getting their maybe one time lesson pre-approved? Or would you both have to be pre-approved as a professor and have each lesson pre-approved? Who would theoretically approve the lessons/professors if they had to be pre-approved? How would someone go through the process of making a club? Would they just make it or would it once again have to be pre-approved? Would there be any barriers on the type of thing you could teach (like does it have to be more formal like irl history or more relevant like tsp history or could it be something silly like k-pop groups)? Would there be restrictions on events clubs could hold and when, or would they just be able to organize it themselves however they wanted?

tldr: what sort of governmental restrictions would there be on the different aspects of the university and who would enforce those (would it be free run or government run or somewhere in-between)?

(or did I just mis-interpret all of this? :p)

Good things to clarify Poppy.
  • Anyone can hold a class or start a club. There's no running "list of professors" or people who can start a club. If things get really cramped or over-crowded we can start to consider options for that, but I don't know if there should any kind of pre-approval necessary. There will probably be an ideas and help thread for people who have thoughts but aren't sure about how to start, but anyone can start anything about something they're interested in learning about or teaching. I see the role of the dean as maintaining records, keeping the university tidy, generating interest in the university goings-on, and assisting people in turning their ideas into reality.
  • As far as I'm concerned there doesn't have to be a barrier to what people teach and learn about. Obviously keep it within site and forum rules, but I've seen everything from chess clubs to language conversation threads to courses about law and history to "the art of cooking and baking." Like I've said, I want this to be as community-driven as possible, where we can all learn from each other both about things within and outside of NS.

Interesting, thanks for the clarification! ^~^ Obviously if we start it then it'll have to be tweaked as we go on but this sounds like a good idea. If we can teach anything though, expect me to make some silly lesson on k-pop or anime or something, you have been warned :p

Should we request a sub-forum and go from there or will this require further pre-planning @Witchcraft and Sorcery?
#16

I think that would be a good idea. I don’t know what further needs to be done in terms of pre-planning.

On that note, it just occurred to me that a sub-forum already exists — South Pacific University.

The old SPU forum is a somewhat different beast, though (@Kris Kringle, can you fill us in?). We might want to consider making something new anyway, or archiving what's there, or something of the sort.

On a related note, who is a respected TSP historical figure who we can name this university after?

Have we named anything after Goddessness? I believe she was pretty awesome.
