Press Release on the Release of Information Pursuant to the Sunshine Act

A series of 71 threads from 2014 to 2017 has been disclosed as part on an effort by the High Court to come into full compliance with the Sunshine Act. These threads include deliberations by past justices on case submissions, discussions on administrative policy and discussions on other internal matters. It is the hope of the Court that these threads will be useful to all members of the public, present and future, as a source of historical and legal research. A detailed report on the threads disclosed, including links to each, may be found in this report.

An additional number of threads and discussion logs will be disclosed in due course, as the Court continues to review its prior discussions.

Statement on the Senior Status of Justice Belschaft

Justice Belschaft has advised the Chief Justice that, on account of ongoing personal and professional obligations, he will not be able to continue at this time his active service on the High Court and will, consequently, assume senior status. He will continue to sit on the Court and be welcome to participate in all internal deliberations, but he will not be included in the regular rotation for case assignments unless he so requests.

Since his nomination by Prime Minister Roavin in May 2018, Justice Belschaft has distinguished himself as one of the sharpest legal minds in the region, and has contributed greatly to the development of regional law and the judicial profession. He will always be welcome to resume his active role in the Court as soon as his obligations permit.

Press Release on the Chief Justice's Speech on Independence Day

Chief Justice Kringle delivered an address today to commemorate the 16th Independence Day of the South Pacific, in the context of the festival organised by the Ministry of Regional Affairs to celebrate the occasion. In his address, the Chief Justice recounted the events that led to the region's independence, and drew a direct link between the values that former delegate LadyRebels espoused and the values that the High Court safeguards in the present day. He then called on the region to keep its commitment to openness, democracy and freedom. The address can be read in full in this thread.
